The missing 777-200 from Thailand to China is a mystery....and I would love to hear everyone's theories.

I'll supply a few....but please add.

If it was over land a 777 in a nose dive leaves a relatively small impact crater.

It would be hard to do but, it could have been stolen for later terrorist use.

There have been stories suggesting it turned back and went off course.

Could it be sitting in a small airport somewhere? Surely if intact some cell phone would give away their position. I bet it is in a deep hole.

In a volcano! ;)

I would think that in a nose dive from 35K they'd have had time to contact someone somewhere. The thing that makes it seems as though normal problems are not the situation is just that, normal problems would have had some radio contact, since they were 35K up, it's not like a crash from that height could be instantaneous or unlikely to be known about. The two (or now they're saying maybe more) bogus passports would lead one to think bombing, but no one claimed it and those that do things like that usually want credit. LOST anyone? Maybe they flew into some sort of a worm hole???? I have to admit, at this time the curiosity is high.

I read somewhere how small a hole an F18 makes if it nosedives into the ground. And almost all the debris follows it in.

My personal opinion is that global warming has caused the Bermuda Triangle to move to Vietnam and that George Bush and Chris Christie knew about it but didn't say anything.

Oops...my bad...wrong forum for that.

My guess is that it was blown up.

and explosion in the air and it leaves miles of debris over water. And if it nosedives in water a lot of it floats. I still think...

Could be in a hanger somewhere being "repurposed".

The flight that (supposedly) landed in that Pennsylvania field didn't leave too much.

CIA probably has a satellite over it by now.

The lack of a debris field sort of rules out a bomb unless the plane is in the jungle but there are people all over that jungle who would have seen something. It is a very curious situation for sure. There is no way that plane landed at some small airport either, the thing is HUGE.

Perhaps, I don't understand the radar in that area, did the plane beep beep beep then gone, or where they in not in radar territory or.... I fear I don't understand the basics at this point well enough to have a valid opinion except that a catastrophic event seems likely. However, again, if it wasn't like beep beep gone, then is it possible it was dropped to a low alt and hijacked, hence leaving no debris, but of course IF, and I'm totally in the dark, but if a plane of that size is virtually always on some form of tracking system, then I would think any descent would be recorded somewhere.....

It's a mystery for sure. Bomb doesn't make sense, malfunction doesn't make sense, and hijack doesn't make sense. What else is there? Majick, hand of FSM,...?????

The entire route is under Radar ...redundantly so, and by multiple countries. Thus far everything seems to indicate a course change followed by the disappearance.

So a hijack is still a possibility w/ no debris then? Radar only shows position not altitude right? Granted, they'd have had to land or crash by now, but I guess my point is that then it could have crashed anywhere, not just near the last known position?????

I don't get why someone would want to take a passenger plane full of - well - hundreds of passengers. But then say nothing and do nothing.

It's illogical that it would have been hijacked and safely landed - all hush hush.

I agree but I was thinking hijacked and then crashed after they were under the radar but perhaps some distance between dropping off radar and actually crashing. It's a stab in the dark. I've got no valid ideas being mostly ignorant about these things except what I see on tv, movies, etc.

Yeah - if they were hijacked it's clear it didn't go as intended. Thus, we have no clue where they are.

It would most likely not be for the hundreds of passengers, but perhaps one or two passengers on that flight were valuable. Plus, how much is a plane worth? How much is an off the books plane worth? Suppose you needed an off the books plane for some OP, how much is that worth?

So, not illogical, just unlikely.

I imagine it would be easier to take a less occupied plane, honestly. Less security: less risk of passengers storming the cockpit, etc.

But: electronics went to crap and the plane flew *very* off course and crashed is also likely. The airline industry isn't really functioning at it's peak these days.

I recently went on a trip to Argentina. We were on a Boeing 777, which I believe is the same model of plane that's missing. That was a 6000 mile trip one way. The plane was completely full.

All I can say is that I'm glad it was an overnight trip (to and from), which allowed us to sleep most of the way. Otherwise I would have spent hours tormenting myself about all of the possible disasters that could happen in mid flight. Most of our travel was over areas that probably humans have never set foot.

In younger days I wouldn't have given such a flight a second thought. Now, even traveling interstate bugs me. I've got a trip to N.C. and another to NYC in the near future and I'm not looking forward to the flying part. I hate feeling that way about flying despite knowing its statistically the safest way to travel. And over the years I've traveled many thousands of miles in and out of the country.

This sad event hasn't helped my little increasing phobia.

My money's on an devastatingly powerful in-flight explosion. No way it was hijacked without the pilots getting off a distress message. Getting in that cockpit takes time now. If the pilots were conscious riding it down, they'd have gotten off a message. Hijacked? They'd have gotten off a message. If a plane landed in the water with any kind of glide ratio at all (which, granted, wouldn't be much at all), I think they'd find debris. There's no debris because by the time it hit the water, the fuselage was in bits and pieces, and the pilots were dead.

I do question why no one has taken responsibility . . . unless they have, and it's being hushed. What's the point of sabotage to make a statement without the statement??
