True, but surely the authorities would have checked every airstrip - abandoned or otherwise - that could remotely handle a 777...especially the rather controlling Vietnam government.
Also, there is that cell phone thing again. Most people - especially those that fly - own a cell phone...surely at least one person would have made a call out if they were alive.

No, without further evidence, I say the plane is destroyed.

Well, I don't know. All I know is if they kill avionics and coast until they get below the radar, they can restart the engines and fly in undetected. I'd think it would be do-able to do that, especially in a 3rd world country. As far as the phones - if the cabin pressure was dropped, everyone would fall asleep. If you are asleep, phone calls can't be made, and you can't fight back if someone wants to kill you.

I know that this is a stretch, but it's possible. At this point, anything is possible.

    Well, anything is possible.

As I said, until I have more evidence to the contrary, I am assuming the plane is down and all onboard are dead.

    Re: Where is the plane?

I think it crashed and the conditions were just out of the norm so no evidence was left behind, and the black box was faulty so it failed to do its job and send a signal.

There's nothing abnormal going on here. No aliens, no bermuda triangle, no interdimensional teleporting woo woo... just a tragic crash that left no trace. People look for the weirdest explanations but fail to realize that our oceans are huge, very turbulent, and nature still very much dominates our world.

I see what you're saying, NL, but there are a lot of variables at play here. No phone calls made? None? And the black box fails? And the locator fails? And no mayday calls were made? And on top of all of this -- no trace of the flight whatsoever, even though 22 countries are now currently looking for any kind of debris?

So many failures at one time - that's just too hard to believe that it's just a coincidence.

    Re: Where is the plane?

it's a big ****ing plane. If it went down, unless it was somehow vaporized, there is a debris field somewhere.

    Re: Where is the plane?

Sudden structural failure, loss of pressurization rendered everyone unconscious, plane crashed into sea. That particular plane had some structural damage in 2012, the wing was hit (the news is finally picking that up, the airline geeks knew about that immediately). Probably went in nose first, small debris field. They will find it, just hard luck that is in that part of the world and the Malays have bad military recon.

BTW, I am a former airline employee (still fly free!), and major airline/airplane geek, I don't see this as terrorism/hijacking, there are ways we would know, a severe depressurization would knock everyone out very quickly, if there was an explosion on the plane (not from a bomb, but fuel tank/structural), the shockwave alone could kill the pax and the crew.

    Re: Where is the plane?

Yea its a huge plane. That would've left a substantial debris field.

Even if it was pointed straight in. The transponder being disabled ? Supposedly impossible in flight.

Depressurization can knock out a crew and passengers almost instantly.

Think back to the Payne Stewart crash where that jet cruised on autopilot with a plane full of dead crew and passengers until it ran out of fuel and crashed.

Rapid depressurization with the crew on O2s could account for the lack of Communication from the passengers.

Its might be difficult to do but not impossible.

AirFrance 447 hit the Water doing 90 mph and broke apart.

They pulled it out of the Sea in pieces.

A 777 hitting the water at 500 plus knots would leave a huge debris field, not too mention plenty of floating debris.

I doubr it went into the drink.

Malaysia Airlines MH370: China in new 'debris' clue

'Satellite images of possible debris from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 have been released on a Chinese government website.

The three images show what appear to be a large, floating object in the South China Sea. Previous sightings of possible debris have proved fruitless.

The China-bound plane went missing on Friday with 239 people on board.'
