Obama isn't stupid, he's twisted with hate and arrogance. The ridicule is making it much worse.

There is nary a negative attribute out there that the Obama Hater's Brigade won't attempt to attach to him. And I don't even ****ing like the guy.

He's pretty far from being stupid. But he could be the smartest guy on earth and still be unsuitable for the job.

I'm going to pretend, against all demonstrable evidence to the contrary, that your post was thoughtful and insightful, and say that Obama is not stupid, but, like Bush II, in over his head. He is actually extraordinarily intelligent, but not able to handle crises well, as is shown by every time the administration stutters when some new emergency happens. His handling of the PPACA passage and especially Benghazi shows that he's not able to handle adversarial situations well.

Interesting perspective or question. Is Obama fast-on-his-feet in terms of decision-making ability?

Nope. Intelligence is compartment specific. Bush II, for example, had an enormously high social IQ, but had little administrative intelligence. In that same manner, Obama is very good at analytics, but little to no good at administration.

Leadership is a complicated thing. You have to have at least a little bit of everything, which is why I'm equally unimpressed by presidential candidates who ran large corporations. Sure, they can administrate, but that's no promise they'll have any of the other necessary skills to lead a nation.

The 57 state gaff really wasn't a gaff. Obama had been campaigning and visiting 6 or 7 states in a day. That's 6 or 7 jet lags stacked up. He was asked how he was doing in the evening when he had just got back to his home air terminal. When he said that he had been campaigning in all 57 states, he was using that exaggeration to tell folks that he was tired enough to have visited 57 states.

He couldn't possibly not know how many states there actually are in the USA.

However, it's a fun gaff, so it will stick around forever. Just know that those who use it against him will never realize how stupid they sound. That's OK by me.

I bet the Teleprompter was smokin hot!

If he is stupid then what does that say about McCain and Romney? ;)

Personally, I think Romney's biggest problem was that he lacked Bush's ability to affect a "folksy" demeanor. Policy-wise there was very little daylight between him and Bush.

Both were harmed by running farther to the right than their records in office bore out.

Hater.

The media ridiculed Dan Quayle for misspelling potato and declared Rick Perry an idiot for forgetting what he meant for #3. Yet the President doesn't know how many states are in the United States, can't remember which is his religion and can't spell simple words.

He can't spell "respect" - and it's literally spelled in the song!

By standards required of other politicians, is President Obama stupid?

Obama shows his R-E-S-P-E-C-T for "women of soul"

Obama shows R-E-S-P-E-C-T for 'women of soul'

I wouldn't say that President Obama is stupid - he did, after all, convince a majority of American voters to elect him President, TWICE!! He's clearly smarter than the majority who bought his schtick.

He is incompetent and an idiot, however, when it comes to actually being President.

I like the old saying - "book smart, life dumb" - seems to fit him quite well, unfortunately for your great country.

I may be crazy, but the way I read the OP's post I don't think he believes the President is stupid. On the contrary, I think he believes that most of the politicians that have previously had the media and the public implying or portraying them as "stupid" aren't ACTUALLY stupid....that they too are simply people who made a gaffe, had a brain fart, were human, etc.

I don't think this President is stupid in any way, shape, or form. I think he's actually rather highly intelligent. To be fair, I think there's a fair amount of intelligence needed to rise to that the level that most politicians get to. I'm not saying they're all MENSA members, but I don't think they're wandering around with a 90 IQ and remedial reading ability.

I do think at times...and not surprisingly, often it's Republicans....politicians get unfairly protrayed as "stupid" simply because they have an accent, make a gaffe, or don't tow the commonly held "public" line on something. I do think as we become a more connected society and these type of things are easier to capture, more and more Politicians are put in an unfortunate situation where being human is somehow a "gaffe". Every comment has to be well crafted, every action looked at from every angle, every thought scrutinized because it's going to be under a microscope with dozens of cameras and mics all over the place and hundreds of blogs ready to repost it the minute it comes out. Sometimes I really do think we as a society would do ourselves to remember that Politician are people, not supermen.

No, he's not stupid. I know it's not cool to acknowledge it but what you're referring to is simple media bias. It's the same with Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. Biden gets a pass for the stupid **** he says. It's why Wolf Blitzer spent an entire broadcast day reporting hourly on Bush's dropping poll numbers but you won't see that now.

Wolf's been quite butthurt since Ted Nugent claimed he wasn't a real journalist - he's absolutely devastated.

The vast majority of people that voted for him would have voted for a carrot with a D next to its name. (Same goes for the majority of GOP candidates and voters)

How about "corpse"men, when addressing troops after flying in on Air Force One? Was that jet lag too?

It depends who you are asking. When Bush bloopered, he was considered the dumbest man alive. Obama could personally waterboard a baby and his admirers would still find excuses for him.

Fair enough, which bolsters my point about him being smarter than the majority of average American voters.

No, that was reading phonetically from the teleprompter. A genuine gaff.

So the "most brilliant orator ever to serve in the office of President" has to have his speeches phonetically spelled out so he can deliver them? Gee, maybe I gave the guy too much credit for not being stupid.

 Let's hope that's not the case...

No gaffe; he genuinely didn't know how to pronounce "corps." Now, if the teleprompter mistakenly showed the word "corpse" for "corps," that would be a gaffe.

He could care less what you think. He's the President of the United States of America and you are John from Canada. Not exactly on the same plane. His gaffs do help to bring him down a little. It's just not far enough John.
