    Re: Do you like Casinos?

    I dislike casino's.

They capitalize on ignorance of the people. Specifically they capitalize on not promoting the theory of probability significantly enough.

If anyone knew the theory of probability they would never go to invest their money on something with such low odds of return.

We only play slots, not tables, and not large amounts. We've never lost more than $200 for the night nor came out more than $200 ahead. Usually will be down about $150 for both of us - which I see as doing well for 4-6 hours at a casino. However, they can be costly stops as we buy the best meals they offer as it seems foolish to be cheap on food since playing at a casino is basically throwing money away.

Do you like to go to casinos?
I go to the casino about 2 or 3 times a year. I'm usually very sensible when I go. Except last year when I went to Las Vegas with my family--- I lost way more than I should have in those Vegas casinos. I'm not planning to go there again anytime soon. I'll stick to the Native American casinos that are closer to home. There is nothing wrong with going if you know when to say "Enough". I agree with you about the food; it is delicious!

Combine a very poor understanding of math (we're all really bad at doing math in our heads) with superstition of one form or another, and you've got all the customer base you'll ever need for your new casino.

You mean that is not a genuine replica of the Eiffel Tower on the Vegas strip?

Las Vegas has a great seafood resturant called "Hot N Juicy Crawfish". Try it next time you're in Vegas.

not sure that's true my parents don't expect to win when they gamble but they seems to enjoy it ( in moderation thankfully)
    same with the lottery

so why would knowing the odds mean that no one would enjoy gambling?

though im sure it would be a turn off for some

    Re: Do you like Casinos?

I lived in Tahoe for a few years, within walking distance of the casinos. I played the worst odds in the house (keno) and made bank. Made more than my job at the time.

When I first started visiting, I watched and found the old asian ladies. They knew how to maximize the odds in their favor. They didn't accept "free" drinks. They played way tickets and didn't shoot for the moon (where the impossible odds did factor in).

I'd enter with $100. Played six numbers, three groups of two. Hitting any two would pay me $24, hitting two in one group $42, hitting three got me $125. Each round cost $3. That's 33 tries. I'd generaly leave with my original $100 and another $100 profit. Sometimes I'd hit four numbers which brought in $600. I never played more than from my original $100, no matter how much I made and never went beyond the $3 per game. Several times I hit five numbers and a couple times all six. Again, made bank.

Actually, the last time I stayed at Treasure Island (a hotel/casino in Las Vegas), they actually clearly stated the various odds of winning each game on a card in every room. And the odds for all the games were clearly in the house's favor.

Btw - Keno was by FAR the worst, followed by slots.

Oh just because 0.01% of winning also means 99.99% odds that you will lose the money. What are the benefits here?

So they share the information on probability? Interesting.

    Why waste money there then?
