other. i like casinos, but not for gambling. i generally go once a year to hang out with a buddy who lives up north. i mostly just go to walk around, have a few drinks, check out the entertainment, and have a great dinner. plus, when you stay at the hotel, you can get up at random times during the night and go downstairs to see what's going on. you can definitely see some interesting stuff there.

i've found that if you're going to win, it pretty much happens in the first ten minutes. i'll spend like five bucks on the slots, and then if i win something, i use it to buy a drink. then i quit gambling. the room itself is expensive enough; i don't need to lose my ass on top of it. i don't find that to be fun. people watching, on the other hand, is fun.

I have a system for never losing at the roulette table..... Guess what it is!
With roulette, I'm guessing you don't play. But I have to say I've done very well at roulette, making several thousand several times. It's just a matter of finding a consistent "dealer" and tracking the patterns. Most numbers I've hit in a row was 6. And I find if you tip well when you win, the dealer stays pretty consistent.

But if the dealer is more random in his/her spins, it's all a guessing game and you're definitely going to lose.

We've tried something on the slots and we've always broke even or made a few dollars in the long run even if there for hours. However, it gets boring after a while and basically is spending 6 hours for both of use to end up maybe $50 or $100 ahead. Friday we were at Hard Rock for about 6 hours and ended up $103 ahead for both of us - which I count as WINNING - because of not losing. I don't know why this works, but always has. But won't bore anyone with it.

However, they are expensive outings overall when the food, room, gas and usually going to do other things plus some shopping elsewhere. So it only cost about $3K to win $103.

You're lucky. I was planning a Luxor trip one goddamn week before they went into revolution.

Stupid Egyptians. Couldn't they have waited til my vacation was over?

    Better food? Where?

Where in all of Cairo can you get a better steak than at Tender @ the Luxor? Or a better pizza than at Slice?

There isn't even a single Churrascaria in all of Egypt.

Street food, nothing like a shawerma pita with foul muddamas beans.

Or, in Vegas you can have one of the famous shrimp cocktails, which has "shrimp" that come from ship ballast water that is pumped out in port, notice that metallic taste?

Who said anything about cheap all you can eat shrimp? Why are you comparing the worst of Vegas rather than what people with actual taste eat? You know what, nevermind, this debate is pointless.

Also, you misspelled "shawarma." Not that its even that good.

I'm sure that Vegas has pretty amazing restaurants (my wife is begging me to go there for just that reason), but you really can't compare that to real food in its native country.
