I look at the knockout game and think is so ridiculous and cruel. However I remember being a teenager and doing stupid things because of peer pressure. I wonder if I would have played the knockout game because of peer pressure. Would you have played the knockout game as a teenager because of peer pressure?

Man attacked in suspected 'knockout game' in Manhattan

Kyle Rodgers, 23, had left the Sweet & Vicious bar on Spring St. when the assailant rushed up from behind him, cops and sources said. The attacker was caught on video.

A bar-hopping Long Island man clobbered from behind by a man in Manhattan may be the latest victim of the coldhearted knockout game.

Kyle Rodgers, 23, had left the Sweet & Vicious bar on Spring St. and was walking to another East Village bar when the assailant rushed up from behind him at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, cops and sources said.

The attacker was caught on video launching a hellacious haymaker that knocked Rodgers out cold, cops said.

No. And wouldn't have hung with anyone who did. I did my share of crap was a teenager, but hurting people on purpose wasn't on the list.

There's no peer pressure in the world that would have gotten me involved in anything close to that. I shoplifted. I ditched school. I drank. I ran away from home. But a knock-out game? NFW.

Heck no. I'm very much against violence toward others unless it is in self defense or defense of others in physical attacks. Even when it comes to defending myself against words, I'm against being the first to escalate that situation to violence.

I can't prove it, but I think adolescent males are more prone to violence than females. Honestly, I'm not so sure that I would have said no if all my friends were doing it.

BTW, I wasn't into shoplifting. I was afraid of my father.

I'd agree with you there. But I have to say that I never saw violence with guys any time I was in high school. Well, there was a fight I had with a girl, but that was a a pushy-shovey hair-pulling contest. Never saw guys in fights. Not that I didn't see them strutting around like cockadoodle-doo's, but no fights. I was a greaser, too. There's been a temporal shift lately. More violence; less strutting.

What she said.....with a focus on not hanging out with crappy people.

Again, I don't have stats to prove it, but there may be more violence these days. I was getting my hair cut by this younger guy. He was telling me how he saw these two girls get into a fight in high school. One had knocked the other to the ground and had gotten on top of her. The one of the bottom pulled a razor from her purse and started cutting the girl really bad. He said he went and grabbed the girl with the razor and she started cutting him. I didn't see it, but I don't think he was lying. Also I have a nephew who was stabbed at a nightclub. Then I was talking to this guy that does UFC. He used to work as a bouncer at a club. He told me he saw a guy slit another guy's throat right in front of him. Honestly, one reason why I stopped messing with that whole club scene was that I perceived it was becoming too violent. People start fighting and sometimes killing each other over very small things. Very dangerous.

Just saying.

I'm 35, and when I was in my younger years there was a bit of fighting, but nothing like today. Back then, and in my older cousins' days you only fought if you had to and that meant the person just was not going to leave you alone until you put some action into it, even then it wasn't about hurting someone but rather giving a couple of bruises and having it done with.

Now it seems kids in general have a mentality that a fight is meant to end in someone going to the hospital or the morgue, they have no self control in these situations and the odds are someone has a knife or other weapon tucked away. Not only is a street fight the mark of a badly raised person these days, it's just a stupid thing to get into because someone, somewhere has something hidden.

nope. Did my share of stupid stuff as a teen, but physical violence wasnt part of my life unless I was defending myself or family. A couple of cat fights in high school, but I didn't start them.

This kind of gratuitous violence that seems so prevalent these days, IMO comes from not understanding what the real repercussions of your actions are.

Like I said my nephew was stabbed at a club not long after he was out of high school. I don't remember one incident of that occurring at a club when I was his age.

I may be wrong, but I think it's because that whole "gangster" lifestyle is being glorified more. I think certain types of rap music is contributing to it. Again, don't have hard evidence. Just an opinion from observation. Some people, including some of the artists, seem to take some of that stuff too seriously.

All part and parcel of it, along with lack of teaching personal responsibility.

And a whole bunch of kids growing up without a dad . . . learning how to be a real man.

:agree: Plus I don't recall ever seeing the amount of general anger in people that I see today. However, as Pero has pointed out in some of his posts, DC might as well have been on Mars for all the impact they had on our personal lives back then. Now, everybody knows about everything going on almost as it occurs!

Greetings, GottaGo. :2wave:

I don't think having a dad or not has a major effect. Considering the general lack of moral guidance even shows up in homes where both parents are present, I'm thinking peer pressure to " man up" along with previously noted influences are more likely.

No, and I can't imagine ANYONE back in my time who would've engaged in it either.

Honestly, I can't believe how our culture has deteriorated this far that anyone is engaging in such depravation today.

Men are more prone to commit violent crimes in general (although there are some crimes that have exceptions, where men and women are either even in how many commit them or women outnumber men). Women only commit about 14% of violent crimes, and despite beliefs to the contrary that it would change with women gaining more equality, there has been very little shift in this number since it was first tracked in the early 1900s or so. The gap is so big that even erring on the side of women possibly committing many more crimes that go unreported, it would still be easy to conclude that men do in fact commit more violent crimes than women do.

I'd like to think not.

But who knows, given the right (wrong) background and situation, I might have.

A buddy of mine did get stabbed in the back during his security days, and we've had a few fatal stabbings here, but it is much worse than when I was a kid.

EDIT - Sorry, forgot. Sorry that happened to your nephew. I've been cut before but not stabbed, sucked.

No, because I was raised properly and, you know, I try to be a decent person.
