Are we witnessing the start if Cold War II?

Are we witnessing the start if Cold War II?

Cold War II would be between the US and China, not the US and Russia. Russia knows that it will definitely lose-just look at its performance in the Gruziyan war.

I think, I would go for "other". We are, in fact, watching the beginning of a new period, but it is much more dangerous than the Cold War. We are now heading into an international security structure that more resembles the run up to the World Wars except there will be any number of atomically armed middle and largish powers.

I never thought the Cold War completely ended. The arms race, spying and global strategics merely slowed up because of the USSR's breakup and economic problems. But Glasnost and Perestroika didn't fundamentally change how they see us as competitors.

If China joined them, even on a subtle scale it would be a scary proposition. The Western allies are really, always competing for resources with post communist societies.

Putin- revenge seeker. He constantly tries to revive the Soviet empire. The Western world now is weak as never before. No one will stop him. Amen.

None of the above. Ever since the failure to pull Russia into the West in the 1990's (largely our fault) we've been engaged in a concerted effort to expand the frontiers of the West, cement Liberal hegemony, and frustrate Russian ambitions. This is an intensification of that struggle and may very well portend a dramatic new chapter brought about in large part by our feeble approach. But this is distinct from another 'Cold War' which has implications of existential struggle and global conflict. 'We' are clearly the stronger side, vastly stronger, but we run the risk of letting an unopposed resurgently aggressive Russia in conjunction with other events severely weaken our position and that of the global democratic order.

In other words....The cold war never ended.

The question that should be being asked if there's a new "cold war" when will the liberals surrender again like they did back in 1975 during the last Cold War ?

During the last Cold War the Democrat Party held out for twenty five years until their party was hijacked by the fringe on the left and they surrendered refusing to continue to fight and stop communist expansion in the world. Yep, it was in 1975 when they surrendered the last time.
