    M

My speed of 14mpbs meets my demand just fine. Plenty to download videos (which seldom come in faster than 6mpbs) and watch Netflix at the same time.
European Russia is not part of the EU, mmkay? So no I wouldn't include them when I say the EU is faster than the US.

Oh but Russia, Asian and European, is equal to the United States in internet speed. You telling me it's easier to hook up broadband in Novosibirsk Siberia than in rural Alabama?

I'm a liberal so I definitely don't know anything about economics.

I know this is off-topic and I apologize for it, but I have to say that it is refreshing to encounter a liberal who knows and admits his limitations.

Not really... just a lame excuse. Most populations live in clusters, which are easy to service if you just try. Of course there will always be those that live in the middle of no where, and there might be more of those in the US and Russia and Canada, but they are a relative statistical irrelevancy when 99% of the population lives in clusters.

It all comes down to investment and willingness to do so by companies and government, and here places like the US and others lower on the list are not willing to do the investment needed because there is no real competition to drive such investment. If you look at the list also, the countries at the top are also countries with lots and lots of choice... something those lower on the list dont have in many areas.

Well aware of that mmkat? But you obviously were unaware of the area difference since you kept comparing the EU and the US. I thought I'd help you out a little.

You think Novosibirsk is tougher than Fairbanks, Anchorage, or even Butte MT? As far as the Internet goes, those American cities are worse. Novosibirsk is on the Trans-Siberian Railway, which I'd bet good money is also where they ran their fiber optics. No such thing as one main pass like that in America; The closest you might get would be I-70.

What do you figure the Internet is like in Yakutsk?

my oldest son travels all over the world with his job. With the exception of South Korea, he's found that the internet is crappier there than here.....

I think there's no way you can say that the USA is more rural than Russia, since Russia has the largest landmass on earth and a good portion of it is inhospitable. And yes, Novosibirsk is probably a lot tougher than Fairbanks.

Correct. Some people just can't admit that the USA isn't the best at everything. Kind of funny actually.
