Don't ask me about the prices and restrictions Verizon and the lot wanted for broadband on the cell networks. When I shop for internet I shop for a pipe, not buckets. It seems most of these providers now days only want to sell buckets. Hopefully when the housing track goes in this year behind me they run the feeder lines by me and I will get some good speeds finally.
yeah, the cable company said they would run a line out to my house, if I was willing to pay them $7K. **** that....

    Yeah, could be.

Looking at that list, it looks like there is a correlation between the size of the country and the internet speed. Even with our size, I feel like we have far more economic capabilities than a large majority of that list and we could improve our placement on that list. But what do I know? I'm a liberal so I definitely don't know anything about economics.

Usually with little or no money one has to prioritize and with a war you have to spend money where you would not like to spend it. That is the reality of war. What would have been much better is spending that money on the infra-structure of cities. New bridges, freeways, road repairs, inner city renewal, etc. etc. etc.

But when there is no money during a financial crisis one has to pay more unemployment money, food stamps, etc. and if you have that extra money for the war everything else is going to lag behind.

The problem is that with a little more taxation, all these things could get better but with one party unwilling to save a bit money and the other party not willing to increase the tax revenue and you have the unhealthy situation that the US is in. That at least is my opinion.

I would agree with CC from earlier - part of the issue is the large area that needs coverage - I note that Russia and China are below us on the list, and they also have large areas and many persons (esp china) to provide service to.

Population is irrelevant. It's area that matters and whats in the area. The US, Canada, Russia, and China have FAR more rural, hard to reach areas than the EU does. Your entire premise is in error.

It's the area that needs to be covered that makes a big difference. IIRC, to get to the size of the US you'd have to start at Moscow. Did you include European Russia and all the countries west and southwest of there in your average? I'd bet good money you didn't.

My speed of 14mpbs meets my demand just fine. Plenty to download videos (which seldom come in faster than 6mpbs) and watch Netflix at the same time.
