My baby brother is a heart surgeon. back when he was doing his general surgery residence, he got to take part in one of the few successful (if you can call it that) "hemicorporectomies". The patient was a gangbanger/drug dealer who had been paralyzed below the waist in a shootout. the guy's family didn't take proper care of him so he developed bedsores and gangrene in and around the pevis. The surgical team basically cut the dude in half at the waist. He had a custom-made wheelchair with a fake lower body in it with a cradle to support his upper torso.
