Encouraging poll results...even though I have little use for marijuana (makes me paranoidish).
The real question is: what gives the government the right to decide what you can and cant put into your own body?
That's a really gross oversimplification of the issue.Yes, locking someone in a cage for owning a plant is absurd and has absolutely no place in a free society.
Well...they do. They can make laws about what you can and can't put into your body. The real question is: what gives the government the right to decide what you can and cant put into your own body?

"It's a plant, therefore people should not be arrested for owning it because it's plant" isn't sound logic and it isn't going to persuade the opposition. That's actually verbatim what is happening. Are you claiming owning a plant will not get you locked in a cage?

So are opium poppies.

Good for you and those seven people. I'm for marijuana legalization too, I'm just pointing out that your logic is unsound and it won't convince any "statist" to change their views. For lovers of liberty like myself, and the 7 other people that liked that post, it is self evident that the government shouldn't be locking people in cages for a plant. Apparently for a statist like yourself, you think that's up for discussion. Would you like to tell me about the huge success prohibition has been?

Sorry for informing you that your justification for your opinion is just bloody awful.I wasn't trying to convince anybody at the time, I was just stating my opinion. Thanks for jumping in and trying to snipe me though. You've really added value to this conversation.
All dope, legalize all of it.
I just came back from Colorado, where recreational marijuana is legal. Would you like to see it in your state? Why or why not?

Sadly it is legal here in Washington and because of that accidents with people high on dope has increased considerably.
Do you have any research to share with us?
I'm all for legalisation with various caveats
Only certain strains of the plant should be legalized, those most likely lead to psychosis banned, those with anti psychotic properties encouraged (Yes they do exist, google them)
>No importation from other countries
>No one with a criminal record for non drug related offences can be involved in the industry
>A strict (but free) licencing system should be put in place to enforce the above.
This means that consumption would occur in a manner more congruent to mental health, and that gangs/cartels can not compete with cheaper legal alternatives, hopefully leading to their being forced out of the business.

The way it works in Colorado is that weed is only sold in certain licensed dispensaries (I believe there are 300 in the state). I visited one called Green Solutions. You stand in a line for a few minutes and they check your ID, and put you in their registry (no idea what that's for, but the legal age is 21). You're then greeted by a concierge who walks you through literally thousands of strains of cannabis, talking about the properties, THC content, CBD content, etc. When you've selected a strain, they walk you through the different forms they're sold in. They sell pre-rolled joints, just plain weed for you to put in your pipe, edibles (chocolates, brownies, cakes, etc), marijuana-infused beverages, hash oils, you name it.
The legal limits are different for medical marijuana card holders and for recreational users. For example, my friend is quadriplegic and has a medical marijuana license for pain management. Where I bought a chocolate bar with 80mg of THC, his had 400mg. Also, you are limited in the quantities you can buy, with medical users being allowed higher quantities.
Medical card holders are allowed to grow up to 6 plants in their own home, but are not allowed to sell what they grow. Recreational users cannot grow their own.
