With marijuana, it's about the lack of capability to make proper decisions and take care of oneself while in that state. The altered mental state created by use places one in a position of abdicating their responsibility to take care of themselves in case of an emergency. That abdication, without previously ensuring someone else is there to make those decisions for you is IMMORAL on its very basis.

OK, much like drinking without having a designated driver. If you do have a designated driver, or someone willing to help if necessary, is it still immoral?

To me, immorality involves harm to another person, not to oneself.

Sort of. Though I do not see any need for public intoxication (the consumption of alcohol in a public place) either. The designated driver makes the issue better, though placing oneself in the mental state to need one is still an issue in my mind.

To me part of Immorality is placing oneself in any position where you are not capable of taking care of yourself.

I could ask the same of practitioners of the abomination of hypocrisy. I, for one, would like to be able to invest in morals testing companies on a for-profit basis instead of only drug testing companies.

If American companies were allowed to test for Morals rather than just drugs/alcohol during the hiring process, 99% of Americans would be unemployed.

So, why criminalize, acquiring and possessing even controversial forms of private property?

If the question was, "should child pornography be illegal?" there would not be as many people agreeing.

So how is MJ still outlawed in all but 2 states?

probably for the same reason we have a McCarthy era phrase in our pledge, but no morals test or anti-hypocrisy laws on the books.
