I guess this pic has gone viral. It makes me want to vomit and this so called lady needs to be dishonorably discharged IMO.

What's wrong with it?

What's the big deal??

There is a certain amount of decorum that is expected of members of the US Military. The activity shown in the photograph goes well outside the boundaries of that decorum.

Now that is a picture of disrespect.

A photo showing an airman tongue-kissing a Prisoner of War-Missing in Action symbol has gone viral, angering veterans.

The picture — of Staff Sgt. Cherish Byers, of the 92nd Security Forces Squadron at Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, Washington — has been posted on several Facebook pages, prompting an angry online response.

Marine Corps veteran Michael Kelley wrote of his "blind fury and disgust", while another, Tara Marie Murray, said: "Let me put this out there seeing as I'm Air Force veteran…no matter what uniform she was wearing this is disrespectful anyway."

The picture shows Byers wearing her senior airman's rank insignia. Although it was taken almost three years ago, it has only now gone viral.

The Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, James Cody told the Air Force Times, “it's a concern any time someone shows disrespect for prisoners of war and those missing in action. "They deserve our utmost respect and we must always remember their sacrifice and the legacy they've left for us as men and women serving our nation." The statement added, "I want to make to clear that this is not a reflection of airmen who wear this uniform; it is a case of port judgment of one airman…to say we are disappointed would be an understatement."

An investigation has been launched into the incident, reported the Air Force Times.

Correct, however, in this case I could see non-judicial punishment being handed out.

Mocking our POW's is no big deal huh. What evil runs through your veins?

Sawyer, some people didn't recognize that from your pic. That is why I went to get the article and so did Maggie.

Edit: If you could, there should be another option listed though if you're serious about the poll. An option for non-judicial punishment (aka Article 15). I think she should be punished, but not kicked out.

For those that want to know what the big deal is, here you go:

I don't think she should be kicked out, but I do think repremanded her with an article 15 is in order.

This from your link says it all.

"There's absolutely no reason to have done anything like that," Kelley said. "It goes completely against everything that we're taught in the military from Day 1. She failed herself; she's failed the Air Force and the military community as a whole by doing something that disrespectful and then having it get out to the world like that."

He said the picture reflects a wider "cultural problem" in the Air Force that is also evidenced by the cheating scandal involving Air Force missile officers at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont.

"It seems like one thing after another with this complete lack of respect for the basic principles of being in a military service," said Kelley, who left the Marine Corps in 2003 as a lance corporal.?

Theres LOTS of things that happen in the military that goes against what the military is. In my time in, we had people with DUIs, drinking under age, physical assaults, etc. NONE of those things exemplify the military.

Again, I think she should be punished and a field grade article 15 could do the trick IMO. No, I don't think she should be kicked out.

I'm sorry but I just don't see how anybody does not immediately recognize that symbol. Maybe it's an age thing. Maybe my poll could have had more options but I was so mad when I saw this on our local news that it was all I could do not to put the option of hang this b*** up.

I too think she should get NJP, lose a stripe, which would be a career killer. But if this happened would we have a bunch of threads about Obama running good NCO's out of the service?

Losing a stripe being a career killer? No, I knew a sargeant that got busted down to E-2. Before I left, he was back up to E-5. He just had to work hard and earn trust back. It added about 4 more years of progression for him, but it isn't a career killer.

I recognized it, but from the pic quite a bit was cut off AND the focus was on the woman in the picture. If it was the full symbol I think people would have recognized it better. I understand your anger and feel it as well. I just think the person made a mistake and it can be corrected.

meh...who cares?

Maybe you are right but something about that pic is like a punch in the guts to me.

I am more familiar with the one below. Just looking at that picture it was hard to tell.

OK american, sorry I went off on you. It was just so obvious to me and made me so freakin mad that I assumed everyone knew what it was, my mistake.:peace

It is to me too, but then you also have to realize people make mistakes. Sometimes when people do things, they don't think it through. That's what non-judicial punishment is for and is a perfect example that should be done in this case. I'm sure this person thought it was funny at the time, but now greatly regrets it given what she probably knows now. People make mistakes.

Would that include pissing on bodies of the dead? I'd suggest those who never served are clueless what 'decorum' the military has from time to time.

That said she appears to be an AF staffer- not really 'military'... ;)

tacky as hell for sure, but if it makes you want to vomit you should never fly in a jet, ride a roller coaster- hell stay away from the Merry-go-round.
