If Abu Ghrabi was Bush's fault because of the "tone he set" then I guess the tone obama sets could be responsible for this. Good catch.

yes, because the conduct of a single airman is so identical to the behavior of a military command at a secret prison in an occupied country. great comparison. it serves you 'well'

As Britain prepared for war, the heavy industries of the Clyde produced ships, guns, engines and munitions. Six weeks into World War II, the first shots of the air war over Britain were fired above the Firth of Forth as Scots pilots battled the Luftwaffe.

The HMS Royal Oak at Scapa Flow and the SS Athenia were sunk by Nazi U-boats. Hundreds of lives were lost.

Scots children were evacuated as people waited for the bombing to begin. The Luftwaffe bombed Clydebank, Glasgow, Greenock, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee - thousands of civilians died and tens of thousands of men, women and children were made homeless.

Members of the Polish army, navy and air force, stationed in Scotland, fired on the Nazi bombers and fought in the Battle of Britain.

In fact, I worked for the Royal Navy for several years -- and it was just that. Work. I am patriotic, I love Britain (who wouldn't?), and I have plenty of respect for what my country has done, what the military has done, in the past and in the present.

But, having been a part of it, I can tell you -- in an organisation as big as the military, it's absurd to think everyone there is a hero and ought be treated with extreme respect or reverence.

In truth, it's no different from any other job, from being a construction worker to a politician to a teacher -- some of these people are exceptional, some are awful, most are normal.

I find it somewhat worrisome that some Americans worship the military the way I fear you might -- not only is it bizarre, it is actively detrimental to your country and military. If you try to shout down anyone who says anything bad about the military, you're contributing to corruption there.

You don't want that, do you?

(I don't think you could say slavery was a waste of money.)

    Still abhorrent and awful, though.
