There haven't been any significant numbers of American POW's for 40 years. Get over it. Move on.

Interestingly...she is an E4 wearing a braided rope. If she is at Fairchild, then she is on the "Honor Guard". That makes you wonder a bit...

The fact is that people grow up with a completely different perspective. Someone who grew up in the Viet Nam Era would understand that picture quite well. Someone that grew up raised with patriotic beliefs and understandings would be moved by the POW symbol. Someone that grew up in a detached home, violent community, affluent community, and any number of other circumstances may not have the background experiences to 'care', even if they were taught what the symbol reflects.

And lets be honest...young people do stupid things. So do older folks sometimes. I thank God there were no cell phones and cameras during my developmental years. I think an LOC is certainly in order, as well as an assignment to service with a few retired/disabled vet organizations and a letter of apology. This is a good teaching opportunity.

There is no option for what I want. But thank you for your concern.

So that makes it alright because there haven't been any significant numbers of American POWs?

It makes it a "who cares" non-event.

If she's wearing a uniform then I would expect her to live up to proper military discipline, regardless of the role she is in. I go out of my way not to do those sorts of things. I find no real pleasure in them and more often than not a massive amount of stress.
Ahhh the old racial superiority of calling the enemy sub-human... how 'noble' of you. Seems I recall that 'reason' was used by a European Army during WWII.

It never was OUR military decorum to scalp our enemies- it is too bad the family members you claim to have that served recently didn't tell you 'the rest of the story' on what 'military' folks do. You have the 'never-served' our country's warped view of what we who did serve really do. Profane just doesn't cover it. the only question is getting caught or not. But keep your Cherry high and mighty standards- you of course never had to live up to them.

I suspect she will be disciplined, but not discharged and those who are 'sickened' by this need to grow up. I was looking at the OP on that one

Edit: If you could, there should be another option listed though if you're serious about the poll. An option for non-judicial punishment (aka Article 15). I think she should be punished, but not kicked out.
Honestly, I couldn't figure out what she was in front of in that picture either until someone pointed it out. Admittedly, once understanding what it was it went from "meh" to "That's not really proper to do, especially in uniform"

So long as there is even a SINGLE American military member who is a Prisoner of War or Missing in Action I will not "Get over it" or "Move on". You want to know why?....

My father was not prone to emotional outbursts. He was a pretty stoic individual. Among the very few times I ever saw him get emotional were our trip to the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington D.C. and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetary during a vacation in the summer of 1991. We stayed there long enough to have the opportunity to witness the changing of the guard at the tomb and it was clearly a moving experience for him. In talking to him afterwards about why we would have such a place, his explaination was very simply..... We asked these men and women to go and do their duty to this nation. They paid the highest price possible for agreeing to do that service. We owe it to them to make sure that every US Servicemember is found.... alive or dead, so they and their family can have closure. I've always remembered that.

I'm guessing Calamity must be one to tell blacks to "move on" when talking about slavery sinc ethat was even more than 40 years ago.
