Actually his terms for them, and most of the indigenous peoples were far less polite than that, to be honest.

He has been back there three times in the last couple of years. I honestly don't know which company it is he has worked for most recently. Most of the information I've gotten in the last two years has been through his mother, my aunt. I know he's due back shortly, if he isn't back already. He now lives down in Texas, for those few months a year he's actually been in the United States recently.

You are really embarrassing yourself in this thread. Visiting Pearl Harbor is hardly 'glorifying war'. It's paying tribute to those who died so that you have the freedom to visit Oahu and check out the waves. That you don't understand this is sad.

When Hawaii was "attacked" it wasn't even a state. So, forgive me for not seeing how anything that happened there affects my freedom.

Granted, it is a nice vacation destination today. But....it's not like Japan was bombing US cities and threatening our freedom. Ok?

A dishonorable is about the same thing as the death penalty to the military. I seen exactly one the entire time I was in legal and it was for a guy with a kilo of cocaine on base and a history of bad actions.

    No significant numbers?

If it's your kid or your spouse then ONE is pretty damned significant!!

I just don't see this as something that worthy of calling for this airman to get discharged over. Sure, it deserves punishment, but nothing more than NJP is needed here.

    Re: This makes me sick

In this country we do not elevate symbols over people. Ever. No one has to treat any symbol any specific way. What is truly sickening is the idea that those who are fighting for this country are not entitled to its basic liberties. Even if someone could demonstrate that she intended disrespect toward POWs (which doesn't seem to be the case, she was simply joking around), she is entitled to do that. Unless this is somehow an interference with her duties (which I don't see how it could be), the idea that she should face punishment for exercising her rights as an American is ludicrous.

I understand your position and agree it is very disrespectful. This group and that symbol for you and I hold a very special place in our hearts. We follow it, believe in it and know what it's about. Hell I have a very close friend of my family that was a POW. His stories are horrifying and his ordeal was insane. Unfortunately not everyone feels that way or even are aware it exists. And as much as I would like to string up anyone who would disgrace it, I would rather have them learn about the cause and become an advocate for it. It would be great to have a lot of younger service people get involved.

If she was not interested in my solution then she can get to packing. Loosing all of the benefits and honors provided thus far.
