Re: Poll for men only please, regarding sex with younger women

I am interested in having a working relationship more than just getting laid. Not all 20+s are the same buddy.

Get them young and you can train them up the way you like.

Of course, tolerating them until they mature might be a royal pain the butt.

When I was 16 my girlfriend was in her early 20s.

Any kind of woman that will allow you to "train" her is not worth having.

When I was 16 my girlfriend was in her early 20s.
I was 15 and my first girl-21. But I bravely lied that I am 18 and soon will be 19.
Now I'm lying that I will be 50, soon.:(

Seems like a double standard. Women damn near pride themselves on having a "trainable" man.

I have no answer for that. Wouldn't be the first time a double standard popped up between men and women.

Re: Poll for men only please, regarding sex with younger women

OK I am going to post a poll for the Men here, based on the yoga pants thread.

Going into this, being completely understanding of the fact that levels of maturity change greatly within a matter of only a few years, I'd like to ask this.

If a girl is 15 or 16 years old, would you be OK with dating her, knowing she was only 15 or 16, if you were in your early 20s?

Would that be OK with you?

I thought that most men would not be interested, remembering the old "15 will get you 20" saying.

But apparently I am wrong, according to one poster here, and most young men would be OK dating a 16 year old.

Not at all...even when I was in my early 20's. The gap in maturity level is huge when you're that young. Eventually that gap decreases over time but say a 23 year old dating a 15 year old has problems.

I'm a male chauvinist who thinks different norms should apply to men and women.

Re: Poll for men only please, regarding sex with younger women

Hell no! --- but only because it was illegal. ;)

Re: Poll for men only please, regarding sex with younger women

I believe dating a 15 or 16 year old girl in most states is against the law

Re: Poll for men only please, regarding sex with younger women

And yet we see that many married women migrate their political views towards those of their husbands. This is reflected in large sample sized studies and we can probably see it in our own social circles.

Sad. Not saying it doesn't happen, of course. I have a friend who reinvents herself, every single time she gets involved in a new relationship. But it's sad to think that people lose their sense of identity when becoming involved with someone else.

Re: Poll for men only please, regarding sex with younger women

People can answer the poll in two ways and I suspect that the poll results are showing this. The first way is to answer on the basis of desire and compatibility. The second way is to answer based on awareness of statutory rape law and societal customs. If there was no such law in place, then you'd be getting more men voting affirmatively.

As someone pointed out, there are a few factors in play here. First, is the issue "Do you find young women sexually appealing and want to have sex with them?" and then there is "Would you want to be in a relationship with a young woman?" and then there is "Considering the laws, is it worth the risk to have anything to do with the young lady?"

Evolution has wired the brains of men to find neotonous women sexually appealing. We're not talking prepubiscent here, at 16 these girls are in that stage of being half-girl and half-woman, and some are past the half-way mark. These girls have a different form of sexuality than more adult women. It's the innocence, the non-jadedness, the gullibility, the puppy love devotion and I'm sure other factors too. Most of these behavioral and physical traits are not turn-offs to men. They're not stable traits upon which to base a relationship, but they're well within the range of traits that men find attractive in women. The woman qualifier here is key. These girls have to be able to appear as young women, not prepubescent girls - normal men aren't wired to find little girls sexually attractive, so a late developing 16 year old is going to be seen by men differently than an early developing 16 year old girl.

Look back in history and you see that girls this age, and younger still, were getting married, so that speaks to the fact that men were finding them attractive and suitable for marriage.

The reason we have statutory rape laws is that these young women/girls are easily manipulated and older men are more sophisticated in how they can manipulate these young women. That though doesn't mean that all young women are manipulated easily and that all men are planning on manipulating these women. Some men are skeevers and some are men are honorable. Some girls/women are immature and some can handle a relationship. The very basis of a relationship is to move forward together and refrain from selfish manipulation, healthy relationships that is, so I don't see a reason why such age disparate relationships MUST fail. A professional colleague of mine is married and in such a relationship with a large age difference. She was in junior high school (I can't remember her exact age) and he was a graduate student in his mid-20s) when they met at a dinner at some cultural center and they knew each other for a few years, and he knew her parents, and they were all friends. They commenced a romantic relationship when she was a junior in HS. Then they got married after she graduated. They both made sacrifices. His career had to take her university experience into account. Her university education involved a few transfers and no sorority parties and no dorm living. They've been married 25+ years, have beautiful children, the age disparity between them is now more obvious (his age is starting to show) but she appears just as devoted to him as I see in younger newlyweds.

I don't see that as sad, I see it as the nature of women. Men do this too, but in different ways. Women socialize and soften men. Look at the attitudes and behaviors of single men compared to married men and you will find all sorts of differences. Being changed by your partner isn't a sign of personal weakness.

Re: Poll for men only please, regarding sex with younger women

I don't think she was damaged. She was married though.

Not exactly something to boast about.

No, there is a question you don't mention and it is the one most relevant to some of us. It isn't whether it is "legal," isn't about "wanting" and isn't about "social acceptability." To some of us it is because doing so is ethically/morally wrong.

Some also see it as a psychological disturbance not in terms of wanting, but in terms of doing.

Being attracted to young, beautiful women is natural.
Sexual exploitation, which is what it usually is when it involves a 20 something man and an almost woman, is morally wrong, always.

Ethically or morally wrong. Why is that? Was it morally wrong when brides were younger in past eras? Note though, I did mention social custom above - this is what I was referring to - people being taught that it is wrong. My question to you is why, as a blanket rule which always applies, this is wrong?

It's entirely about social acceptability, if your arguing from a moral/ethics standpoint.

Society dictates those things.

A mere 100 years ago, a 25 year old dude dating/marrying/eventually impregnating a 14, 15, 16 year old chick not only happened, it was the norm. Wasn't considered immoral or unethical.

Now, unless you feel that somehow men have evolved since then, this question is simple. Baring social stigma, older dude have no issues dating/marrying/banging teens.

An Islamist would disagree vehemently.

Re: Poll for men only please, regarding sex with younger women

When I was 16 I dated a 20 year old girl (young woman). We had a great time. She was from another state and ultimately missed her family and friends that she grew up with and went back home.

I went through a wee bit of a heartache, but considered it to be worth it. Soooooo, life went on.

But I don't know about the situation being reversed?

I am on the opposite end of the question. When I was 16, I dated a guy that was 21 years old, and a student at the university not too far from my childhood home. It wasn't a problem. I was psychologically older than my age would indicate, and he was an unusually nice young man, who would never have tried to take advantage of me. I think it really depends on the specific two people in question, and not so much on their ages.
