    Re: Best National Anthem?

You know what, as a Swede, I have to nominate the Danish national anthem as the coolest one I know of.

    Lyrics Translated:

King Christian stood by the raised mast
    His sword was hammering fast
As the heads and the brains of the Swedes were smashed
    Who can escape?
Then he hoisted his red flag.... etc etc.

Hahahaha. **** you Demmark! Of course they play that every time the Swedish soccer team comes to Denmark.

Too many Americans are voting for the former Communists or the French. Disgraceful display of treachery!

I don't see any of that going on in this thread. I only seen one arrogant prick insulting the English speaking world for failing to learn a second language. We don't have to learn a second language. Every important literary work is already translated into English. English speaking people already have access to every culture of the world. It's kind of pointless to spend 2-3 years learning a second language. Wouldn't you agree?

I see a group of people sampling the patriotic hymns of various nations and giving an honest opinion of their preferences. I don't really see any biased and blind patriotism.

I have to admit. I do not know what nationalistic dick-waving is. I think this is a great thread and it has been very successful. Making a false prediction after the fact just seems strange.

Oh please. You obviously didn't grasp my passage. I have nothing against people for being multilingual, I was merely pointing out that most languages can't be fully understood even when superbly translated. Korean Internet slang such as 통수잼 which translates into "backstab-fun" would have its meaning lost to most people. Nobody complained that my post was arrogant or insulting, so I do have to wonder whether you have a victim complex.
In addition, I saw how most threads like these turn out-into nationalistic dick-waving. It's human nature, to take pride in their group, their collective. You'll see that many Americans, even though the OP specified not to vote for their own respective nations, did indeed vote.

Whatever anyone thinks of the EU, the anthem they chose can't be beaten.

Adopting ≠ ripping off. In any case, Beethoven donated it to Europe in his will.

Is that right? If that's true, then I take back what I said.
