There is more social unrest in many parts of Europe than there is in the United States. That said, there is huge cultural divide anymore between Urban Metros and Rural areas. The folks in rural areas like to think of themselves as self reliant, but most aren't at all. They are completely dependent on wealth transfers from urban metros to rural areas. For example, the entire state of Kansas essentially lives off of taxpayers in greater Kansas City. They would be doing good to have running water and flush toilets in western Kansas if they did not have JoCo taxpayers paying for it. This happens at both the state and the federal level. Unless that changes, there is no chance of us ever having anything close to a civil war again.

I bet they are the ones who survive without running water though. Kansas City would start eating people.

I doubt it. Survival more than anything takes physical fitness (its why 99% of preppers are a joke). Granted a lot of urban people have no idea how to survive in the woods, but some of the most accomplished backpackers, adventure racers, and people that are comfortable in the backcountry are people that lived in and around cities. Many people live in cities because that is where their career is, not because they are weak.

and they aren't threatening armed tantrums over lost elections.

the fact remains, there isn't going to be another civil war. if there actually was some sort of public riot, it will probably be the kids that are being left behind by the economy, not a bunch of pissed off Republicans who can't wait two years for an election.

Foreign campaigns are essential to U.S. survival because they provide the body politic with outlets for aggressive discourse. Like any intelligent government, war is the means to keep the public satiated and distracted from any injustices that happen domestically.

The number of restrictions on their freedoms that Americans are willing to abide in this century are partially a result of distractive wars. The day that there are not wars to fight, the people will see exactly what has been done to them and there will be an uprising.
You cannot possibly believe this. Are you being serious or is this satire?

A civil war between ideological parties may happen on a political level, but not an actual physical/gun fight.
I could see riots/demonstrations over some extreme laws or severe austerity measures, like those that occurred in Europe, but even that won't last indefinitely.

People have to live day to day, which means resource gathering, eating meals and doing chores to even exist. They can't camp out unending or have daily battles. Most resistance movements are as a form of terrorism acts and guerrilla tactic in nature. The fantasies of movies, where people roam around in groups fighting battles, never takes in account the logistical factors of real wars.

Civil War? Hahahahahahahahaha, about as much chance as replaying the Super Bowl. Millions would die off from just not getting off the couch.

I laugh as I read through this thread.
Long before armed conflict could occur on a large scale,
people would be impassioned enough to actually show up and vote.

And thats what the poll above says. You seem to be the only one assuming everyone is up in arms and want to call them names and run off to Scotland. The rest of us are just having a discussion.

well, good luck with your civil war, then. you guys had better pick it up, though, because by the time you get out there on the battlefield, a Republican might be in the White House. then the whole thing would be for naught.
