What's Your Personality?

This subject is so fascinating. Thanks Muhammed for linking that table.

It explains something though. I always thought I was introverted when I am an extravert but us had to get over some ****ed up **** that happened in my childhood before I became myself fully.

But I have always had a reality distortion field akin to Steve jobs. Albeit not nearly as strong, but while it doesn't come across a forum very well, I have a very dominant personality and the people around me tend to automatically fall in line with what I want.

But instead of being an asshole, I have an intuitive understanding of people around me and in return I give them whatever validation they crave without even noticing I am doing it. ENTP types seem to naturally do this according to the literature.

When I do my engineering work, my ENTP works for me to as I am also intensely logical and rational. Especially emotionally. I spend a great deal of effort cleaning house in my brain, removing painful influences, smoothing inconsistencies, categorizing thoughts, looking for deeper meanings, etc. but it gives me internal peace too.

But I was thinking on the way for work, realizing whatever I need, "I know a guy for that" and my list of personal contacts is huge. Whenever I get involved with a girl, that girl inevitably wants to marry me pretty quickly too. (However I will admit my getting into relationship skills vs being in a relationship skills weren't equal, I learned since the divorce I think and I am better at the plateau points in a relationship now). But yeah, often what I want, I get from people by making them believe that it's what they want too. I have long suspected that if I were a sociopath I would make an awesome cult leader.

:lamo A taco cult. I picture you having followers that you would order to go around robbing Mexican restaurants for you and bring you back a bunch of tacos.

But seriously according to the MBTI literature both ENTP and ENTJ types do tend to be natural leaders. And when I think about it, I've always gravitated towards leadership positions ever since I was a kid. For example, in little league and high school I was always captain of the football team. And my current employer put me in charge of all concrete operations just a couple months after I was hired back in 2004. Same thing with the other contractors I've worked for over the years. Everywhere I've worked they always quickly put me into a leadership position.

What this article says about parenting is a good description of my parenting style too.

Regarding my children I always had a let kids be kids philosophy. I didn't have a lot of rules and wasn't very strict and they turned out great. And I never got angry when they strongly voiced their opinions. I didn't mind it or get angry when they argued with me like many parents do.


And just like the article says, having kids really did profoundly change me. It forced me to mature and become a responsible adult practically overnight. And I think I did a pretty good job at that. I changed my behavior instantly. Before, I drank too much and did a lot of drugs. I was always either drunk, stoned, geeking on speed or tripping on acid or some combination of those. That changed.


Before I had children I really couldn't give a rats ass anyone's feelings and sort of had a Spock-like attitude that emotions were not rational. I had to focus on improving my weaknesses. I was forced to develop my Fe to be more considerate of their feelings if I was going to be a good caring father. And that carried over to my attitude towards everyone else in my life too, not just my kids. I generally became a more caring prson.

It's interesting. There's leadership and there's creating dedication. My employees think I am awesome but I don't give them any more money that what others get. All I do is just be personable. But they regularly go above and beyond and have covered my ass on more than one occasion. Also I know two them will quit if I ever do.
