On CNN, the husband and mother of Marlise Munoz were interviewed.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/29/health/texas-pregnant-brain-dead-woman/

The husband was asked about the bills and he stated he is receiving bills and was told by other media outlets that their billing procedures would be unchanged.

The husband was clear he did not want his wife to be kept on machines and the courts indicated clearly that the law did not apply to Marlise because she was dead as of November 28th.

Who should foot the bill for the period of time where she met the criteria for brain death?

I would think the people of Texas would care? The hospital should have clarified the law the moment there was a clear disagreement in it's application.

Aside from the issue that physicians and lawyers should have had a clue that the law did not apply to dead people.

The hospital should eat the cost.

This is one the hospital will have to eat all costs after November 28. They did not apply the law properly and refused to turn off the ventilator.

The state of Texas should foot the bill. They ordered her kept on life support, they should pay for it.

I clicked the wrong vote LOL. Teach me to vote without coffee.

I voted for the hospital, but the state of Texas should foot the bill. They are the ones that passed the law that forced the hospital to keep her on life support. The hospital was just following the law.

No matter which one of the entities listed is billed, many others will pay. The hospital, the insurance company nor the state of Texas will loose any money. Premiums for everyone will go up, or costs for all the patients at the hospital will increase or taxes will pay if the bill goes to the state of Texas. Unfortunately those responsible will not. .

Whomever had sex with Mrs. Munoz and thus jointly created the kid that warranted the life support should be responsible for the healthcare costs associated with trying to keep the kid alive.

This cost should not have stopped last Sunday; when a father is clearly not acting in the best interest of his minor dependent he should not retain medical decision making authority, but he should continue to be responsible for the costs of providing for the kids he creates.

I think this is the issue.

The state of Texas did not order it. They misapplied the law. The law did not apply to dead people. I think unless they attempted formally to clarify the law when conflict arose in November, the hospital should foot the bill.

I didn't realize that. If it was someone from the hospital that made the decision, then the hospital should pay. Basically whoever made the decision should be financially liable.

The ones who refused to let the woman die in accordance with her families wishes. The hospital seems to be the most likely candidate for footing the entire bill.

I agree, but the reality is that she did die November 28th 2013. They just refused to take her off the machines.

That is right, and because of that the hospital will have to pay for the costs the family had to make to allow her to die (the lawsuit), the mental anguish they had to go through and the medical bills incurred because of the refusal to let her die.
