What "peace" has come into being because of Snowdens actions?
"Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough."
I voted no, not because what he did doesn't deserve recognition, but because the Nobel Peace Prize has become a joke considering some of the people awarded the prize in recent history.
Perhaps the Congressional Gold Medal would be far more suitable - it is, after all, awarded to citizens "who have performed an achievement that has an impact on American history and culture that is likely to be recognized as a major achievement in the recipient's field long after the achievement." I can't think of anything quite as impactful as the revelations Snowden has disclosed this past year and they will have reverberations for years to come.
If nothing else, for waking Congress to the actions of the government they are sworn to oversee, he should be so recognized.
A Canadian conservative is one who believes in limited government and that the government should stay out of our wallets and out of our bedrooms.
I voted 'no' too, because there are better candidates out there.
I am very grateful to Snowden for revealing the government's actions. As Americans (and I'll throw in the Germans too), we can all think of similar situations of which the NSA spying is reminiscent.
