Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

Judging from the body language that I saw from the people assembled, no one was overly impressed with his speech, including the Dems who were apparently hoping for something more. There was polite clapping, and some stood up when they agreed, but no exuberance displayed as in previous speeches.

Greetings, AlbqOwl. :2wave:

I wonder what more they were hoping for? More empty promises?

Good morning, ChrisL. :2wave:

I think they may have been looking for a more hopeful message from him, with potential future results. There really wasn't much new that he said...it was mostly just a rehash of past messages. There have been a lot of "scandals" this past year, and many are concerned about their future. His job is secure---theirs may not be. The problems with the ACA didn't help matters, and while he stated that things are getting better, the man on the street doesn't see them. There are now more than 92 million unemployed people in this country, with 50 million on food stamps. Our infrastructure is crumbling, food prices are going up all the time, and there's a lot of work to be done to fix those problems. Those in the audience know these things, but he didn't address them. I don't know...

He doesn't care about any of those issues. His presidency is pretty much over. He just wanted to make a name for himself with a new healthcare plan, to be the president who changed the face of the healthcare system I'm sure. Too bad, the bill is terribly ineffective.

His presidency is not dead yet.

You are right. He has three years to go and he can do a tremendous amount of more damage with that kind of time to work with. We can't just sit back and assume his early lame duck status will save us. The only hope we have to keep him in check is the reluctance of Democrats up for re-election next year to follow him like lemmings into the sea. We need to make sure they continue to be concerned.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

I missed this. My cable, internet and phone all went out for about 32 hours. I missed that state of the union mess.

I saw a few clips of Obama saying he would improve the situation of the American without congress. WTF? Was that political talk or is he seriously going to bypass the law to get his way?

He can't do jack squat if Republicans retain control of congress and the Democrats retain control of the Senate. This is the best case scenario. I'm not sure why any true conservative would want a Republican president. Republican presidents historically do things. Calvin Coolidge is the exception. A Republican President usually makes deals with democrats to accomplish things. A Democrat president usually isn't willing to work with Republicans. Neither party can go on a spending spree when you have a democrat in the white house. It's great. There is an exception to that too. If Democrats gain control of the House and the Senate like they did back in 2010. That's when the Affordable Care Act was born. The 2014 election has two possible outcomes for the end of Obama's presidency. Stalemate and a Democratic Party spending spree. Let's hope for stalemate.

With DEMs being out-spent 2-to-1 with House races, they have run up the proverbial white flag.
Holding serve in the House would be a victory .

In case you haven't noticed, he has been able to do a hell of a lot more than jack squat with Republicans in control of the House and Democrats in control of the Senate. He has executive authority over every government department and program and has demonstrated a very strong willingness to circumvent Congress whenever he thinks he can get around it. Congress doesn't write those thousands of regulations that will be included in Obamacare alone, nor does it dictate how those regulations will be enforced. Obama has arbitrarily changed that law for his own convenience several times now and Congress has thus far been helpless or unwilling to seriously challenge him on much of anything.

Further what he says he intends to do can send shudders throughout the socioeconomic fabric of the nation. Just watch what happens to the stock market when he threatens this action or his intention to do this or that. We already have a crippled economy almost entirely because he refuses to do anything that will help repair it and threatens to veto anything that Congress passes that would repair it.

We have more dictator than constitutional President at the helm right now. And he is doing and will likely continue to do serious harm to the country.

Not sure how I feel about the dictator comment, but you are certainly right about him not having an issue with ignoring the Constitution and just doing things his way. It's disturbing to say the least.

Well point well taken on the dictator comment. I did stop short of flat out calling him a dictator. :) I do believe that he acts more like dictator than constitutional president though.

Well we can totally agree on the point that he is a terribly divisive president and that he ignores what his and the fed gov limitations should be according to the Constitution. :)

Oh yeah. He hasn't been able to abolish Christianity. He hasn't been able to establish an Islamic theocracy. He hasn't been able to obliterate Israel off of the face of the map. He hasn't been able to tax all of the rich people into poverty. He hasn't been able to establish a communist form of government. Something isn't adding up.

When he is he going to destroy America like he has planned to do all along?

Who needs congress if Obama can do it all on his own?

That's fine. Isn't his goal the destruction of the American economy?

I'll let that statement speak for itself. (Note: This is 2014 not 2008, 2009, 2010 or 2011)

He sucks at inflicting harm if that is his goal. He has had plenty of time to f*** us over and hasn't been able to accomplish it yet.

The Dow ended down 189.77 on January 29, the day after the SOTU, with all other markets dropping accordingly. The losses were attributed to "general jitters about the overall global economy." Amazingly, today it has recovered from those jitters without any new news about the world economy, and recouped some of the losses, so I guess traders and investors are now willing to wait and see what happens next. Like the song says "what a difference a day made, twenty-four little hours"..."

Hmmm. Hyperbole much? I suppose we could deal with all the straw men you built into that post, but I'll leave that to others. I would prefer to focus on what I actually posted if we are going to discuss something I saidl. Thanks so much for understanidng.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

His presidency is not dead yet.

It was dead from beginning. His ideological component was false from the beginning.
Не can't put ideology ahead of the economy. But he did. He can't try to divide people even more, then we are now. But he did. He can't lie all times, when he open his mouse. But he did.

Re: Are you going to warch the State of the Union?

Nah, I already know the state of the union - "SNAFU", to use a nice acronym.

I rarely believe even a quarter of what politicians say these days anyways, and the higher the office the less I believe.

Funny thing is, he's still far better than any Republican I've ever heard, including Saint Reagan.

Better at what? Reading aloud?
