Anyone that follows a law they think is immoral, dies a tiny bit inside every time they do, IMO.

I would rather be a dead hero then a live coward.

The government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation or the entertainment industry for that standard. I am against the government setting any moral standard.

You're taking a very specific issue and extrapolating it to making broad claims that I don't think you actually mean.

I agree with you that our government shouldn't try to regulate sexual and other relationships between consenting adults, but the issue of morality in general has to do with right and wrong, and our government establishes laws about what the people who elect people to the government generally agree is right and wrong.

I am curious how people differentiate between legality and morality in their every day actions

had to answer other

since morals are factually subjective theres no way to answer, id have to answer case by case off of examples cant just answer in general

anyway i follow most laws, im sure like most people i have j-walked, been speeding, i drank underage etc

as far as laws and morality they dont really relate, sometimes they line up sometimes they do

but whats interesting and you made me think of it, i cant think of an immoral law right now.
Does anybody have some examples of immoral laws? maybe my head is just foggy.

Death is not the usual punishment for law breaking. Could you offer some examples of the kinds of laws you would refuse to comply with?

I was referring to an extreme.

And whether I would comply with a law or not would depend on how much breaking the law was worth the hassle if I got caught...which could depend on the law, my thought process at that time and other circumstances.

Basically, I believe (in this case) in the Libertarian ideas about laws. That what I do that does not negatively affect others reasonable enjoyment of life is none of the government's business...generally speaking.

Can you give an example? I have yet to run into a conflict.

thats what i said i cant think of ONE immoral law at the moment? at least not a national law

there are some local and state laws BUT they dont require me to follow them

Someone brought this up earlier in the thread so I'll restate it - copywrite or the length of copywrite.

uhm, yeah i dont see that being a moral issue really. Not in the high sense anyway.

if we are talking about morals stripped none to its most basic meaning and the subjective definition of right or wrong then maybe i guess but typically when people talk about morals they are talking about upper level right vs wrong.

like rape, murder etc
and not like taking pennies out of the penny jar at a gas station you know what i mean.

as far as copyright law im not that familiar with it

isnt it basically a law that states copyright can run out after a set time?

depending on what is being copyrighted and the time i think its a good idea and bad idea i dont think its a black white issue. Like just about everything its circumstantial

I can't really think of an example of not following immoral laws, but I do know professionally that I will not dispense or approve of any medication for the purpose of an elective abortion when I become a licensed pharmacist. In some states it is illegal to deny someone who has a prescription for an abortifacient, but still many leave that judgement up to the practitioner. In such a state I would still refuse to fill any abortifacient for an elective abortion because in my own values my license in that state if worth less than using it to contribute to, or approving of the unethical killing of another human life and have my own actions be partially responsible for facilitating that (if I'm forced into such a state I simply just won't stock it, then refusal wouldn't be an issue). As a professional though I simply refuse to practice in such states in a setting that would require me to contribute to killing another human being.

Those are nonsensical laws that would never exist in the United States or any first world countries. When you have to delve to this level of absurdity, it's clear that you've got no real argument to make.

Read the book "Donkeys may not sleep in bathtubs and other stupid laws."

I remember hearing about a law in the old west that outlawed the game BINGO. Suddenly people started paying HOTEL.

Any law that isn't well thought out is a stupid law and to me, immoral.

Typical atheistic anarchism. Abandoning god and so you abandon your commitment to law, order, and the responsibilities of citizenship. This is why we need a strong, strict, and godly system of government and order.

You go enjoy your Middle Eastern styled Theocracy then...I'm content with a secular government myself like the founder's established, thanks.
