    Re: Are you unemployed?

Employed and making a considerable amount, but in the past couple of weeks, one of my former employers is expanding and is actively pursuing getting me back at an increase in pay, plus another company that I previously considered has decided that they want me too. I'm just waiting for actual offers to see what I want to do. It's nice to be wanted.

I'll bet the true unemployment percentage is much greater than most people realize.

I understand that unemployment percentages are calculated by using those that collect unemployment benefits, and the rest of them are not counted at all.

With only ten options, I could not list them all. If your situation is "other," explain in your post.

If you are unemployed, how long?
I would technically be a "discouraged worker" as I lost my job in 2008... but I disappeared from the unemployed world as I was not looking for work. Instead, I started a business, which now has over 70 employees (which, but the way in the the DoL sampling of unemployment, as I report my payroll and employment stats to them once a month) Certainly I have had much discouragement through that journey.

You understand incorrectly. Unemployed is defined as wanting to work, could take a job if offered, and actively looked for work in the last 4 weeks. Before 1967, there was no set time limit, it was just actively looking for work. But job search has always been part of it, and benefits never have been.

what definition are you using and what m a les it "actual?" And even if you added everyone who says they want a job it would only be 10.2% And that's including those who haven't tried to work in over a year, and those that couldn't take a job if offered.

Count the underemployed and its probably over 25%
How are you define underemployed and how could we measure that?

I read the figure is actually 12-13% if you count everyone who gave up looking for work, but actually wants to work. Also the underemployed figure adds those with part time jobs, that want full time jobs. also something i read.

Maybe you read it a couple of years ago? December numbers are in Table A-1
    Actual UE rate is 10,351,000/154,937=6.7%
We see that "not in the Labor Force, persons who currently want a job" is 6,111,000
    Plugging that in: (10,351,000+6,111,000)/(154,937,000+6,111,000)= 16,462,000/161,048,000=10.2%

I read today it was actually closer to 12 million not 6. Either way, the figures should report those that want to work, but gave up. I mean lets be straight up with the people that trust you to govern them, that voted you in to look out for their best interests. Transparent governing is the best governing. It might get more people interested in what's going on in the country they live in

Unsurprisingly, DP membership seems to tilt heavily towards the right side of the bell curve.
