Many factors affect one's outlook about various things - history, current events, politics, religion, media, family & friends, personal character traits, life experiences, environment, upbringing, education, etc. etc. etc.

Just curious. Nothing ulterior, just curiosity.

What is your outlook re the future of the United States of America - and maybe why?

It's against my nature but, given the history of other countries that have traveled down the same road we're on...very pessimistic.

Re: What is your level of optimism concerning the future of the United States of Amer

if we're smart, we'll go back to being a country. empires that do that sometimes end up ok.

This country has survived a civil war, a war of independance, and many many other challenges. It will survive this current fad of Progressivism, and will continue to be the place where men and women can pursue their dreams.

Re: What is your level of optimism concerning the future of the United States of Amer

I live in "anticipation of a civil war". Any optimism. I do not believe, even, that healthy forces in the country will win.

Re: What is your level of optimism concerning the future of the United States of Amer

I'm in the "somewhat pessimistic" column, due to our long term economic outlook and our government debt.

Chances are my opinion means very little here given the fact that I am new to america but overall I think things are going well and not nearly as bad as people make it out to be at least from an immigrants prospective

I think feminism has done irreputable damage. It has destroyed the family and destabalized society. I think we will be in for a rude awakening within the next 2 generations.

Desabalized Society? I'm not from the USA I recently moved here but I am curious why you believe that. I though feminism movement was to be able to vote and work with the same wages as men... I don't know how that could destroy the family lifestyle.... could you eleborate ?

Highest standard of living, the only superpower.

Gotta wear shades.

Back in before the 60's there was at least one parent home to raise the kids. Now, both parents have to work in order to raise a family because the influx of workers due to the feminist movement has increased inflation to the point where you can't survive on a one earner household. So kids are left alone at home with their parents firearms (US has the most firearms then all other countries combined) and get into gang activity because they have no mentors in their lives. There is also no fault divorce which has destroyed the family in the US. More than 40% of marriges end in divorce and more than 60% of thouse divorces are initiated by women for irreconcile differences. Which basically means they are simply not happy. Not because of domestic violence, or any real reason to get a divorce. Only because thru the media and their friends, they are programmed to believe their husbands and bumbling idiots who don't deserve them. Then they get the kids.. kids grow up with 1 parent who is working.. left at home alone... Told their father is a douchebag by their mother when it was her idea to get the divorce anyway.... it just goes on and on..

The fallback position for the US is second place. We're geopolitically generations ahead.

Oh.. wow I had no idea... I suppose it makes sense back then woman took care of the kids while the dad made the food. now there is double the workers because of the influx of woman working and the job market can't handle it so they lower the paychecks to compensate for more workers... I had no idea but at the same time I think I support the idea of woman being equal in everyway... I'll have to think about this thank you for your reply

Yes, rarely do parents have at least one parent home to raise the children. Parents are to busy off working trying to buy little gadget for themselves and for their kids so that they don't actually have to raise them, just distract them long enough so they don't have to deal with them. Then they wonder why their innocent children who they never pay any attention to grow up horribly...

I have my hopes set in us getting it together. We'll make it. Though, from a world political standpoint, I'd imagine the world is going to be multi-polar again instead of just a sole superpower.

Very Optimistic.

If you were to go through a list of the greatest trials facing the US in it's history current times are actually pretty damn good. People have a tendency to hear bad news and not put it into context. Look at the late 70's early 80's. Pessimism reigned but right around the corner was massive economic expansion and relative peace in the US.

Re: What is your level of optimism concerning the future of the United States of Amer

Where's the "we're ****ed" option?

I'm clicking the screen, I think I'm doing it wrong.

Right there with you. "Very pessimistic" is the closest thing to it. **** be ****ed, yo.

At that time, and earlier, Americans tended to be responsible adults but now near half of them are dependent on government handouts. They had 'gumption' and the 'can do' spirit then, now rather old fashioned concepts.

The Americans of today are not the Americans of yesterday, and that makes me quite pessimistic.

I don't know; Britain and France have turned out great, and that was largely because of their empires.

i would argue that it's because they largely abandoned the empire model.

Well, I think you're partially right. I think it's probably more accurate to say that Britain and France are so nice now because they successfully ran their empires for so long.

Essentially, they conquered half the world, spent plenty of time, energy and human capital securing their dominions. Then the time came to give it all up (World War II, namely), and they instead turned their huge resources to turning their countries into paradises.

I think a fundamental part of the establishment of no-crime, prosperous, welfare Britain was the empire period that launched the civilisation to greatness. Albania, for example, never had a major empire to spur its cultural and human development, and so never underwent this evolution or transformation from superpower to super-nice place to live.

this is a compelling argument. but along those same lines, don't you also think that we have already reached and passed the apex of maximum benefit when it comes to our own empirical aspirations?
