    Somewhat pessimistic.

I think income inequality is going to become a larger and larger problem until the middle class nearly disappears.
I think the political parties will become more and more divided and argumentative.
I think government spending on both sides of the aisle will continue to be a serious problem.

But I tend to have a pessimistic outlook towards nearly everything, so that's not abnormal.

The question how can they regain the freedom they've lost to Big Government and Big Debt, given that almost half the country is getting government aid of some sort and that there are actually fewer in the work force? I want America to succeed as much as anyone but are they up for the challenge? Many don't seem to believe there is a challenge, but the debt and demographics are there.

I see no reason for optimism. The soul of America, the automotive industry, practically ceased to exist. American cars have become degraded copy of European and Japanese. Production of other goods, taken outside of our country. List of the best doctors in the bast hospital of Brooklyn (NY)- entirely Chinese surnames. There are also Hindu (from India) and Filipinos. Cardiac surgery made me a young Hindu, God bless him! But I wonder where the doctors American- Americans?
Silicon Valley-75% of workers are foreigners. And where graduates of American universities? Not withstand the competition? Agricultural workers are illegals from Mexico. At that time, as 50 million Americans receive food stamps for agricultural products, which grown illegal workers.
Educational program students of public schools, it's a shame. 40% of students can not read. Others do not know the history, geography, mathematics, literature. This is clearly seen at this forum. Especially among liberals and socialists. Which are mostly very young people. There are grounds for optimism?

I am somewhat optimistic that people will realize what made us great and get back to that model where everyone needs to pitch in for themselves as we all work toward a common goal. The middle class can't continue to carry more of the load.

I doubt it will survive without them, or at least their attitudes towards the importance of smaller government. The size of government is overwhelming the citizenry.

If you believe that the problem with America is the Tea Party then it's clear you are part of the problem alluded to a couple of posts ago.

Somewhat pessimistic. Our economy will bounce back just fine...not worried about that... The threat of more involvement in potential wars is high, even tho Obama does his best to keep us out of them for now.....What bothers me the most is the loss of our personal freedoms on a daily basis, and not so much by the Federal government and the Patriot Act, but by the State Governments and their agencies... We are headed down a slippery slope of destruction and the loss of our liberties...

Not good. Our economy mostly operates through financial speculative and short term investment. Forty years ago the economy was run quite opposite today. It was mostly run related to trade and long term investment. One method is advantageous to the productivity of mostly everyone which leads to better gains for everyone. The other is advantageous to a small portion of people who mainly gain significant amounts of profit without contribution anything real or tangible to society. Not really a good trend.

Tea Baggers created it, I would think it will. It even survived the Progressives successful banning of alcohol, so I'd think it's pretty resilient.
