I've never been to Texas before. I'm sure there's plenty of new things to see and do there.

I highly recommend it sometime. It may not be the best vacation if you're looking for a spot, but if you have another reason to head to the area, Austin and San Antonio are really great cities with a whole lot to do.

Plus the Tex-Mex is the best in the world.

San Antonio is a lot like Venice, there's a series of rivers and you can ride around on boats and relax, plus there's lots of water parks.

Austin is also a very clean, young, fun city.

I've always wondered what cheese eating surrender monkeys looked like in their natural habitat.

    I'm down...

I'm trying to think of a place that I wouldn't be prepared to visit if a free holiday there were offered. Maybe Pyongyang. Possibly Mogadishu. Beyond that, bring it on!

I've been to Paris, France dozens of times; always a pleasure. Beautiful, cultured and, despite the myths, I've always found Parisians friendly and hospitable, and I'm English.

I'd go to Paris, Texas on a freebie in an eye-blink. It wouldn't be my first choice of Texan cities, I'd love to see San Antonio and Austin, but why the hell not? I know that Texans generally might have the absolute opposite values and attitudes to me, but I've been to places where I've even less in common with the genpop, and had a great time.

Does it really get that hot in Texas though? Is it hot like that every day in the summer or just occasionally?

So, is there a catch or not? Hello OP. Where are you?
Heck, it's snowing like crazy here right now. I'll go anywhere.

Depends on where you are in Texas. Huge state. Took me 8 hours to drive from Victoria to Dallas, and I still had a ways to go to get to Arkansas.

They get snow in the panhandle pretty regularly in the winter, from what I've seen.

I had a friend who lived in Corpus Christi and said that the heat was unbearable in the summer, but that's pretty much as far south as you can get in Texas, I think.

Yeah there's not much more below Corpus until you get to Mexico. And hot? Yeah, hotter than the fires of 400 hells. But not any hotter than New Orleans, or Biloxi, or Houston, or Mobile, or where I am, for that matter. The cool thing about Corpus - trying to get my bearings straight, but I think it's called Ocean Drive, and you drive up and down and have all these pink stucco houses. They were so cool. I'd live in a pink stucco house, if you could move it out of Texas.

    That sounds cool.

I've never been to any southern states. I have no idea how hot it is. I know here in the summer in MA, we flock to the beaches because it's always 10 degrees cooler on the coast than inland. I was kind of surprised that Corpus Christi was SO hot because it's a coastal city.
