I guess if loader used that 'dirty Muslim city' line in a stand-up routine in France he'd be fined for hate speech. Oh wait, wrong minority.

If Paris is a "dirty muslim city" as loader contends, he might consider going around...not pass through. Gosh, I can think of a lot of options here....like go straight to Belgium and not pass through France.

There are regular tour trips to NK, and it seems rare that Americans actually run into trouble there while on official tours. Newman wasn't exactly intelligent going there as an ex-army officer who was active in the Korean war.

Not that it justifies what the North has done to him, but seems like a situation where you're guaranteed to run into trouble

Monsoon rains can be pretty tolerable, depending on where you're at. It's usually like a hard torrent for an 1 or 2 hours per day, then sunshine. Though some places in the himalaya it can be endless rain and flash floods for a few months

Tour trips are the only way to go to NK. I looked into it when I was going to do a stint in SK a few years ago. The trips are very expensive, and you are assigned one or two 'minders' who follow you everywhere and direct where you can and cant go. It just sounded like a way to fund a terrible government with hard money, so I passed, even though it would have been interesting to go and see the place (however sanitized the tour was).
Many Trump supporters have lots of problems, and those deplorables are bringing those problems to us. They’re racists. They’re misogynists. They’re islamophobic. They're xenophobes and homophobes. And some, I assume, are good people.

I suspect he's one of those tourists who take their arrogance and attitudes with them when they go to a different country, and when those attitudes and arrogance receive a hostile reception, he'll cry anti-Americanism when what it really is is anti-Assholism.

Anyone who thinks Paris is a "dirty, crowded city" has obviously never been to Asia.

Not really thrilled about the visit to ANY large city. Why visit those people dumps when I could go to a wilderness area instead? Much, much more beautiful and plenty to do.

Exactly. There are huge Muslim populations in every big city, including American cities. I was surprised at the number of Muslims I saw in Milwaukee. You don't necessarily equate Milwaukee with Muslims, but there was a huge community there.

I'm not big on the organized tour idea, but i doubt you're going to have a chance to view an authoritarian regime any other way. And while my money would be going to the regime, it's not enough to make much of a difference in the world

PS "Tour trips are the only way to go to NK. "

I am more than aware of that. My point was that most of the people who get detained there are usually accused of crossing into NK territory illegally. The only person I have ever heard of being detained while on tour was Newman, which isn't exactly coming from left field considering his history in the country and the general paranoia of the regime.
