Should these criminals be arrested, prosecuted and imprisoned?

Should these men be prosecuted under federal law?

As many members furious claim the "mountain man" who refused to pay $16 for a fishing license rightly was arrested and prosecuted because everyone must follow the law, this seems a relevant question - and is a public poll for those daring to ask.

Every MALE born from 1959 was and still is required to register with the Selective Service, which can be done at the post office. Failing to do so is to be punished:

1. 5 years in federal prison.
2. $250,000 in fines.
3. Lose of voting rights, gun ownership rights and all other loses associated with a felony conviction.
4. Banned from ever holding a federal job or job with the post office.
5. Banned from only most political offices and many other types of employment.
6. Generally also then being unable to be bonded or licensed for many professions, including as an attorney.
7. Banned from most law enforcement positions.

Most states also have penalties.

Shouldn't every male who has not or did not register as required be promptly arrested and prosecuted since everyone must follow the law and there should never be any exceptions or excuses allowed?

I'm not really sure how I feel about the draft. If the country was being invaded, then I think a draft might be needed, but other than that, I don't think our men should be drafted to fight a bureaucratic war that's run incorrectly by politicians.

Also, I think some of those penalties sound a bit on the harsh side.

Now that women serve in combat MOSs women should be required to register for the draft, should they not?

Registering for the Draft: It's Still the Law

With all the spying the government and the age of computers does why do we need to still register for the draft? I think the law should be repealed. Besides I think a draft should only be legal should a country attack ours first without provocation.

In general I think the draft either needs to include women at this point, or it needs to go away. Considering how many 'bad wars' our government has thrown us in, I don't like the idea of them having the ability to call up people for their stupidity. If there is something big, we would have enough volunteers.

HOWEVER, if I consider who the people are that probably did not register, then for the time being, make them felons so the can't vote any more, it would do our country good. ;)

Prosecute them, but no prison time. I can't stand for throwing even more folks into our overcrowded prisons for something draft-related in peace time.

The draft is UnConstitutional and Gay...

Which has pretty much never happened.

Is this an illuminati plot?

Our blockade of Japan's oil route in WestPac prior to.

So? Pearl Harbor was still attacked. That's an attack by a foreign country on US soil.

Well that wasn't the point, the key words in his post were "without provocation".

I was born in 1955 and had to register. I'm 1H. 'H' stands for holdover. I escaped the Vietnam war draft by one year.

I was born in 1959 and was a Corporal in hte USMC and I still had to register.

SUCKS to be you but I did not. I think my youngest brother did.

enatorial opponents of the war wanted to reduce this to a one-year extension, or eliminate the draft altogether, or tie the draft renewal to a timetable for troop withdrawal from Vietnam;[SUP][58][/SUP] Senator Mike Gravel of Alaska took the most forceful approach, trying to filibuster the draft renewal legislation, shut down conscription, and directly force an end to the war.[SUP][59][/SUP] Senators supporting Nixon's war efforts supported the bill, even though some had qualms about ending the draft.[SUP][57][/SUP] After a prolonged battle in the Senate, in September 1971 cloture was achieved over the filibuster and the draft renewal bill was approved.[SUP][60][/SUP] Meanwhile, military pay was increased as an incentive to attract volunteers, and television advertising for the U.S. Army began.[SUP][52][/SUP] With the end of active U.S. ground participation in Vietnam, December 1972 saw the last men conscripted, who were born in 1952[SUP][61][/SUP] and who reported for duty in June 1973. On February 2, 1972, a drawing was held to determine draft priority numbers for men born in 1953, but in early 1973 it was announced that no further draft orders would be issued. In March 1973, 1974, and 1975, the Selective Service assigned draft priority numbers for all men born in 1954, 1955, and 1956, in case the draft was extended, but it never was.[SUP][62][/SUP] The last drafted soldier retired from active duty in 2011.[SUP][63][/SUP]
Post-1980 draft registration[edit]

On July 2, 1980, President Carter issued Presidential Proclamation 4771 and re-instated the requirement that young men register with the Selective Service System.[SUP][64][/SUP] At that time it was required that all males, born on or after January 1, 1960, register with the Selective Service System. The Selective Service System describes its mission as "to serve the emergency manpower needs of the Military by conscripting untrained manpower, or personnel with professional health care skills, if directed by Congress and the President in a national crisis".[SUP][65][/SUP] Registration forms are available either online or at any U.S. Post Office.

But aren't you an Ivy League Silver Spoon baby that had your daddy get your out of it? ;)

I hear you but that really isn't a justifiable reason for war. We sanction Burma, Iran, North Korea Cuba and other nations too...

Do we decide what justifies a war? What we did to Japan's oil shipping lane prior to their attack at Pearl Harbour was very much an act of war. If Iran were to blockade the Straight of Hormuz.............

And if anyone of those countries had the means to kick our ass for it, they would.

And if anyone of those countries had the means to kick our ass for it, they would.

And I don't care, if they did, we would fight back as we should. Maybe if we didn't have to play daddy to the rest of world, THEY wouldn't have these issues.
