Yes Ive asked a very similar question about 7 months ago in April or May and before that, about 24 months ago.

BUT in the last 7 months NINE states have granted equal rights to gays and allowed them to legally marry and DOMA fell.

In the last 24 months TWELVE states have granted equal rights to gays and allowed them to legally marry. DOMA falling was such a victory and stepping stone for equal rights just like i said it would be.

Anyway here is the run down

Updates in red: 11/30/2013 V3.0

18 states and DC have equal rights:

Massachusetts - May 17, 2004
Connecticut - November 12, 2008
Iowa - April 27, 2009
Vermont - September 1, 2009
New Hampshire - January 1, 2010
Washing D.C. - March 9, 2010
FALL OF DADT Dec 18, 2010
New York - July 24, 2011
Washington - December 6, 2012
Maine - December 29, 2012
Maryland - January 1, 2013
FALL OF DOMA - June 26, 2013
California - June 28, 2013
Delaware - July 1, 2013
Rhode Island - August 1, 2013
Minnesota - August 1, 2013
New Jersey - October 21, 2013
Hawaii - December 2, 2013
New Mexico – December 19, 2013
Utah – December 20. 2013

Illinois - June 1, 2014 effective

14 more are in various stages of fighting or establishing a fight for equal rights

Court Case(s) in the works to establish equal rights:
Arkansas
Kentucky
Michigan (Feb 2014 Trial)
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania (June 14 Trial)
South Carolina
Texas (Jan 2014 Trial)

Court Case(s) and Legislation in the works, which ever wins first:
Arizona
Nevada
Ohio (December 2013 trial) Trail had narrow ruling that ohio will recognize OTHER state marriages but didn’t impact bans. New cases expected.

Legislation in the works:
Colorado
Florida
Oregon

thats 32 states that could have equal rights by 2015 and some much sooner![/QUOTE]

so im very curious what people think now and if they changed their guesses.

SO now after all this, Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage, how long until its a national reality?

0-5 years
5-10 years
10-15 years
15-20 years
20-25 years
25+ years
Never

after some voting comes in ill try to search for the other two similar polls and compare numbers.

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

also just for so more info when equal/civil/human rights was protected for interracial marriage about 80+% of the country was against it

the number keeps moving but about polls in the last 5 months post numbers ranging from 52-58% support equal rights for gays

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

I voted never.

The Illuminati made you vote that way, didn't they?

Such it has been and so shall it ever be. Allu Illuminati.

and the logic behind your guess of never?

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

5-10 years because i think its going to take a little than 5 years before the federal government has the right supreme court case to recognize these rights. It certainly won't happen through legislation.

I agree every state will not legislate it within 5 years nor will every state get a SSC case in that time to grant it. But I do think SCOTUS will rule on this in the next 5 years and make it national just like it did with the equal/civil/human rights of interracial marriage

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

Not what you are desperately hoping for......the question is how long until it becomes a reality.

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

The # of states doesn't matter except for how aggressive the remaining states are at appealing "activist judges." With the fast appeal promised out in utah, i would expect scotus to take the case up in 2015, after bans have been struck down in a few-several more states.

I would love if a crybaby governor like herbert were to appeal, and SSM becomes legal nationally as a result. Then he can be the villain in the other 30 states.

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

I think we are just about at the stalemate. Things are going to slow down.

Define slow down?
I mean since there potentially 14 more states in the next 2 years it doesnt seem like theres doing to be a slow down, there definitely might not be another year like this one thought thats for sure.

also it seems that people might push very hard to drive at least one if not two cases to SCOTUS and well at this point I think thats going to be a victory depending on which case gets driven that far.

If its one of the divorce/benefit cases then SCOTUS could simply rule in a narrow fashion and say states must grant divorces to all legally married or something of that nature but if one of the cases where am unconstitutional banned was overturned they will be hard pressed to punt.

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

nah im gonna leave it for now with just a note its being pushed to SCOTUS which i think is a great thing

Its being pushed to the appellate court, which was true before the stay was granted. Depending on that decision it may be appealed to SCOTUS. It almost belongs in its own category of confusion haha.

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

Poll needs a IDGAF option.

yes correct and you are right if one isnt interested or paying attention it can get confusing

i just hope everytime states try to infringe and violate individual rights people always push the issue as far as they can.

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

From what i understand the appeals court that's handling utah also has jurisdiction over oklahoma, so it makes sense that would be stayed.

It certainly puts more pressure on scotus to rule when even red states have their bans struck down.

Re: Equal rights/Same Sex Marriage how long until its a national reality?

Utah is on hold as a judge has made those marriages invalid. I think it will be 25 years plus or never.

No, the judge didn't make any marriages invalid. The supreme court justice put a stay on any more marriages, The governor of Utah decided that the state will not recognize those marriages that were legally performed. The federal government still recognizes those marriages, as well as a couple of other states.

State of Utah does not and may not later. The decision will decide whether other states will as well.
