Right alongside the lives of thousands of specifically-targeted, unsuspecting civilians who played no part in such things.

So you support the Obama administration as using our court system instead of military procedures to process these detainees? And even then don't think a death penalty should be applied? Oh golly gee, I'm glad you are not the one looking out for me. Cheers!

Lookit. You want to slough off a really complicated, important issue with garbage replies like, 'Bleeding hearts live in a fairy tale world of hand holding and vanquishing their foes with hugs and kisses.' you're gonna be treated with the degree of respect you deserve. You're going to get lots of replies and affirmations from fellow idiots and morons with their lowbrow bumper-sticker philosophies and be left out of serious discussion of the topic. Maybe that works for you.

If they were out on the battlefield fighting, then they should have done it then. Too late now, IMO. Besides, we don't even KNOW if they're all guilty.

Of course we should use the court system on these detainees. They are not POWs. They are people being detained as criminals who should have been read their rights, been given lawyers and tried or released years ago.

Why the hell not?

If your country is to the point of killing people and breaking ****, it has already failed. Killing more is of no consequence. Kill one or kill many its all the same, organized butchery. There is nothing civilized or decent about it. The sooner everyone realizes this unpleasant fact of life the better off everyone will be as what needs to be done no matter how distasteful will be done. To win a war people have to be willing to be MORE evil and UNCIVILIZED than their enemies for longer. The time to be civilized is when the killing for both sides is done.

Not so, apparently, since I've been rejoined in debate to that effect. The quality of your bumbling 'analyses' are commensurate with your facility for observation, it seems.

Please don't make some pretence of skill where all you offer is undeserved clemency for the sake of scoring moral points. Even a semblance of accolade is more than you're entitled to, trust me.

Why not our court system? Because they aren't citizens, or legal immigrants. If they have court proceedings, have them out of the country, by military means. They aren't US criminals. They are foreign detainees. If I had my preference, they wouldn't be detained, they would have been shot in battle, but since they were taken by the military, let the military deal with them.

Well, we are not really at "war". That's the problem. We are stuck in this state of sending a drone off to take out someone we suspect means us harm. It's pretty ****ed up. I felt we should have packed it up once OBL was taken out of the game.

I do not think we need to compound the current stupidity by killing prisoners who probably never did a damned thing to us.

Killing defenseless people is exactly what Obama is doing with his drones. He's killing innocent people and those that are suspect terrorists without a trial.

Now for the people at Club Getmo just leave them there and not kill them, or let them go and kill them with drones and get a few more innocent people along the way.

THe link I posted above said over 2/3 of all Gitmo detainees have already been cleared of wrong-doing. THey need to be released. Period.

THe rest need to be put on trial. Military trial even if that's the best remedy for this FUBAR.

apples and oranges. Start a thread on the drones. This one is about Gitmo. But, if you insist, I say letting them all go and droning the ones we don't trust is just fine.

I'm sensing a bit of irritation in your tone with me. I have no interest in fighting with you vesper. I said my position and I stand by it. I find the death penalty is unwise for the people to support for the very reason that the state is killing people for actions it finds wrong. I'm sorry, but I can not support that.
