I did not not feel I had any right to assume that others would see anything in me that would demonstrate an ability to bring the city, state or nation past the "mediocrity" which I had achieve in my own life.

I would also like to beg the others that would not run because of the corruption and greed in the political system, do something! Stand up, become the system and push out the corruption. Until the halls of congress are full of people trying to pass a budget instead of just trying to deny the other side what they want the problem will persist, and our great nation will continue to decline.
That's why you vote "I HAVE considered running for office." - and then it gives you the option of replying to the post to explain more.

And very cool. What sort of political position are you interested in seeking? What sorts of things would you like to do if/when elected?

I plan on running for local government first, probably Mayor of my hometown, where I can get my political views out there without having to claim any party allegiances. The financial burden of attempting that in a larger forum greatly reduces the chances of being heard. Possibly move up to state level if I am successful. I would love to help start the movement that ends this two party system where you must be pro-life while supporting the death penalty in order to be a fiscal conservative.

Things I would like see happen?

A focus on education to include extra curricular activities such as sports and the arts. I believe these are the things that will build a smart, more confident, more creative future for our country.

Build a social aid program that builds its recipients up towards independence instead of creating a dependance on government aid.

Create programs that build community and not just revenue.

Support the fact that my beliefs are not your beliefs and that neither belong in a law making process to force any "beliefs" onto the public.

(yet I would not consider myself a modern liberalist)

There are plenty more things I would like to see come to fruition, in my mind these are some of the more important things obstructing a stronger future.

It's definitely something I've considered. Not yet, obviously, but in ten years? It's certainly always going to be as possibility.

If you want something done right, you've gotta do it yourself.

    Very interesting.

And the two party system does tend to allow people to do less research. They take a few beliefs and know "This person is a Republican, so they must support this, so I'll vote for them" without knowing what they really plan to do in office. It's a double edged sword because while it really does give you an idea of where a candidate stands - for people who only have the smallest knowledge of politics - but on the other hand it does make people not really look into any candidates personally - on who is really the best candidate.

Good luck in your future endeavors in politics. City Council does seem to be good training grounds for potential Mayors. It helps them get in on learning all the stuff that the town deals with, and some decision making, although more of the responsibility falls upon the Mayor.

I served on my county school board which was an elected position. I also ran for magistrate but lost by 65 votes.

Oh wow. Cool. How long did you do that for and what was it like? What sorts of changes did you make?

And 65 out of how many who voted?

4 years while my kid was in high school, tried to make that school stick to a budget without increasing taxes every year. There were 10k+ that voted in my district that year.

That's good. That's the way to do it!

And wow - that sounds close - was there a recount?

no, I lost because I was "too" honest during a debate and lost a whole area in my district. it was no big deal really. It would have meant a lot of phone calls at home after 5pm.
