This has absolutely nothing to do with freedom of speech.

He was free to speak his words.

A and E was free to tell him to duck off.

I do not approve of what he said, but frankly I would rather know who the judgmental narrow-minded folk are rather than have them hidden.

The hypocrisy is evident from all sides of the fence.
    Couple of things.
    1) The Dixie Chicks spoke out against an American action on foreign soil
    2) Phil Robertson was asked his opinion, so he gave it
    3) No one asked the Dixie Chicks to talk politics at the concert, they decided to do that on their own
    4) The Dixie Chicks spoke against their core audience, then lost them, and radio stations refused to play them.

In both cases freedom of speech was not violated, in the case of the Dixie Chicks they ruined their own career by pissing off their audience unprovoked. Duck Dynasty may or may not go on(I don't care, I don't watch the show) but the Robertson family is loaded already, Duck Commander is a popular brand.

They are business men with their own brand of hunting gear, most notably the Duck Commander calls, I think the uncle is the only one who didn't go to college but did serve in 'Nam. They aren't stupid or uneducated people by any stretch of the imagination.

The Daily Mail (so it must be true!) has pictures of the gang pre-fame, and clean-shaven. The last question on the poll is correct!

    Don't work out, work in.

Yeah, I really think he doesn't give a quack quack.....lol

I've seen some fairly successful and educated people who I wouldn't let clean my pool.

I read the context of what he said, he was just giving out examples of biblical sin, in fact he mentioned straight people living in sin in the same sentence, along with prostitution. He also said he isn't to judge anyone and "let god sort 'em out" when their time comes. Agree or disagree I've seen much worse come with far fewer consequences.

    Myself.

These folks are pretty bright though, they do things themselves for the most part and show practical intelligence rather than the theoretical intelligence that always fails in a highly comical way. That said I've never seen an episode but know a bit about their story, I am more offended at groups(pick an ideology) that seek to silence people they don't agree with. I was as pissed off at the Christian lady who threatened "Married With Children" as I am with people attacking Phil Robertson. In any of these cases of attacking their advertisers and television carriers it's simply a bully tactic.

The Dixie Chicks, I never felt sorry for as they went out of their way to make an unsolicited statement, they attacked their own core audience.

Actually, I support him because I love giving a big "**** you" to people who want to bully their opposition into silence. I am not particularly religious as a Catholic but know what he is referring to, just not my business what others choose to do with their lives, that said, if someone wants my opinion on something I will give it, and if people don't like it, well, that's fine.

I don't know on which thread I posted the link to TMZ's commentary, but A&E knew what it was getting into with Phil Robertson a long time ago. And surely has been delighted about the revenue and the popularity of the show. I agree with Scott Collins that "the particular problem for the TV industry is that it's trying to profit off the same cultural tensions it's exploiting."
