Please explain the reasoning for your answer.

It depends on who and from where.

Call it bigotry if you must, but some countries in Europe are having HUGE problems and growing ones with Muslim immigrants, who increasingly are pushing for Sharia law in the most literal sense and for a theocratic government.

I generally oppose allowing in people from countries with theocratic governments and extreme theocratic intolerant societies.

I am fairly agreeable to allowing people in otherwise, provided they bring work skills or other assets with them. So most from Central and South American would be acceptable, generally all of Europe, and nearly all of Asia and much (but not all) of Africa.

Please explain the reasoning for your answer.

I assume we are discussing legal immigration.

In which case, I'm for inviting all those with constructive talents to join us. We could use more doctors, more robotics engineers and a lot of other abilities or investments that make our country a better place.

Yes. With emphasis on need expertise. For example foreign graduates from US educational facilities, in certain areas of study, would rank high on a list to admit. The current idea of those that chose to enter illegally should get head of line privileges (amnesty) is simply insane. We currently have more qualified workers than jobs in many areas and yet lack them in others; immigration policy can help that situation or hurt it - the choice is ours to make.

Legal immigration? Absolutely. However, we ought to limit immigration to those people who will do good for the United States, we cannot continue to be the dumping ground for the world's refuse. The well-educated, intelligent, skilled immigrant who will benefit us, invite them in. The poor, drug-addicted, criminally-oriented immigrant, they can take a hike. We have too many of those already.

Instead of an immigration bill that revamps immigration, cut it up into small pieces. First, remove the lawyers and years of delays. Make it a short process to get a working visa, and at maximum 2 years to immigrate with a green card. Next, identify who you will keep renewing; target them and incentivize them to stay. Others, unless they are sponsored, should not be renewed. Those who commit crimes are revoked and deported after serving time or paying their fines.

Basically fix the broke ass system we have now which lets lawyers get fat for little work over year and years of waiting. Once that's in place then wait for the right time to pass immigration reform - whatever that means.

Is there a country out there that forbidds imigration? North Korea or Saudi Arabia maybe... which are not exactly good company.

So do you suppose the USA would necessarily become just like those countries if it simply stopped immigration?

Why or why not?

Think!

I voted yes. I am very much against illegal alien invasion, but those who come and remain here legally are a positive gain for our society.

only if they speak English, can read and write while possessing some employable skill where they can contribute to the country financially

Nope, I simply wanted to point out how redicilous the concept of stoping imigration is.

Especialy for a country like the US.

What is your last name? Is it Italian, German, Irish, English, Scandinavian, Polish or even other?

Please explain the reasoning for your answer.

I am all for legal immigration. But it must be restricted.

1. Only those who want to be Americans should be allowed to have green cards and eventually be citizens. That means no dual or multi citizenship, they must speak English or be in the process of learning English and be fluent by they time they get their citizenship. They do not have have to speak like a grammar fag/nazi, English, text book or English teacher.

2.The number of people allowed in should be seriously controlled so that they are not used to artificially keep wages low and so that the local population can easily absorb them.

3.We do not allow anyone from countries we have the most illegal immigration problems with into the US.After all not all illegals sneak across the border, many of them get visas to come in and deliberately overstay them. So logic would dictate that we do not allow anyone from problem countries until most of their citizens who are here illegally are returned.

4.We do not allow anyone into the US who has a serious disease or illness, pregnant, can't pass a criminal background check.

5.All immigrants must be able to financially support themselves and their children without any tax payer funded assistance.

First, make attempting to cross our borders illegally an exercise in futility.

Legal immigration with ease and incentives given certain criteria. Gives incentive for highly educated and skilled individuals to come, and we need them. I don't mind poaching the best and brightest from the rest of the world. Doctors, scientists, archaeologists, educators, engineers, etc etc. Make them Americans. Fine by me. Obviously they can bring their families. One brilliant engineer is worth it if he/she is bringing a family of 9. However a family of 9 unskilled people from the third world only creates a larger burden. I'm sorry if that offends people, but it's quite true.

Legal immigration under normal circumstances possible, but it needs to be under scrutiny for those that don't offer the U.S. more. Switzerland is a great example. Those that offer something for the better get fast tracked.

No, we don't need them. I don't buy that ridiculous mantra for a nanosecond because there is absolutely no evidence to support it.

And another thing, you mention "highly educated" individuals. A huge number of those people are only "highly educated" because they were in the USA on a student visa, being educated in an American university.
They filled seat that an American could have filled.

And practically all of those universities continue to receive funding from the American taxpayers. To continue issuing student visas by the thousands every year when the US economy has been in a depression for nearly a decade borders on treason.

All it does is screw young Americans. You know, that important demographic that is over 50% unemployed or underemployed right now through no fault of their own. Did you forget about them?

Or perhaps you just don't give a **** about them. You care more about foreigners.

Legalize illegal immigration, you know like they did back when my family came over here from Ireland, and allow anyone & everyone in.

Save untold billions on border enforcement and put that money into municipal police departments (with a focus on community policing, where crime is a problem). Further, take the billions saved on futile border enforcement and place some if it directly back into peoples pockets, with saved tax dollars.

Have you ever considered that many of the people trying to leave those countries are actually looking to escape those theocratic and intolerant societies?

The Mayflower anyone?

Oh I could care less about foreigners. We are flooded by them in the southwest yearly. I say, if any are going to come in...make them Americans, and ensure that they are major contributors to our society. There's no such thing as too much intelligence. There is such a thing of too much stupidity. This country is flooded with foreign dimwits, most illegal. They steal American jobs. Let's face it, you can never have enough brilliant scientists, engineers, etc. If they come here, make it so that the only way they are coming is if they renounce former citizenship and become American.

I agree, we should have a closed policy much like the Swiss. Their culture is strong, fiercely nationalistic and proud. We could use a lot of that around here, unfortunately this place isn't a melting pot anymore, it's turned into some warped united nations where everyone is something else and wants to fly 'their countries' flag. I say, if you don't fly the stars and stripes, go back to wherever the hell you came from. There's plenty of people here that love it and were robbed of a job, and there are plenty of people that want to say they are American, and yet can't. Scandinavian countries are feeling the effects now of the policies we currently have in place. We need to put an end to our policies of late, they are deteriorating the fabric of this country. If you want to work/go to school/contribute...you're either becoming an American, or you can turn back around. If you try to enter illegally, face...meet electric fence. It takes a net worth and education to become a Swiss citizen. We should hold a standard much like that.

I think you and I are more on the same page than you think.

Problem here, the people coming here are clueless concerning America. They typically support the politicians that glorify "vote for me and everything will be free". Spend-it-all-Deval (MA governor) won in a landslide primarily due to uneducated and largely state dependent areas. These areas are flooded with indoctrinated generations of people that came from countries that were largely socialist/corrupt/etc. Free handouts are golden tickets in these cultures. They have no business being involved in the American political system, as their votes will lead to the deterioration of our current system...much like the countries they came from.

This isn't a race thing. Don't start with that. This is purely numbers and facts.

How very libertarian of you.

How very libertarian of you.

It absolutely isn't. It is one policy I'm quite adamantly against. Countries, as of late, that have open border policies, are crumbling economically and culturally. Unlike the left or the right, the Libertarians don't vote lockstep and do offer alternatives as individuals.

Is it ideal? Sure. Open borders, everyone smiling. Is it realistic? On the verge of a global financial catastrophe with the imminent collapse of the EU, I hardly think an influx of population is a good strategy to preserve the country. My views on this are strictly from a fiscal standpoint. It is the only Libertarian Party policy I do not agree with. Population increase from people that are from countries that are quite literally the opposite of us is not a good thing. They will vote (and have historically) for people (progressives) that mirror the system they were accustomed to. This is not America, as progressives don't share a single view with the founding fathers, nor do they look at the Federalist Papers as anything more than a bunch of organized sheets of paper with zero bearing on the country.

Bottom line, a large influx of people will lead to a collapse economically. Go to the southwest. I've been. Border towns in particular. Count foreign flags being flown vs American flags. Point in proof. They have no respect for this country. Why should they stay?

There are nationalist Libertarians. I stand for the country as it was when it was founded. I'd love to see a return, as the country was essentially founded by Libertarians (or before the left stole it, 'classical liberals').

What is America, especially where immigrants (legal or otherwise) are clueless about?

Calling Massachusetts anything other than highly educated is rather absurd. Even in the worst school districts, education is valued in MA, and on the whole I'd argue that it's a relatively successful state. Especially considering the extreme lack of natural resources available to its population.

Numbers and facts:

CBP budget = $11+ billion per year.

If there's one thing I value, it's honesty.

Fair enough.

Fiscally speaking, I'd argue just the opposite. The way I see it, our military/ defense industrial complex is likely the most damaging fiscal activity of our government. Historically speaking, our largest influxes of immigrants have come at times of global catastrophe.

This is about the only area, where I get all "flag wavy" and see the United States as that beacon of hope. The text on the Statue of Liberty has always struck a chord with me.

I do understand that no-one is ever, nor should they be, hard-line for any one political party.

However, I do feel that a non-liberterian approach to immigration enforcement, really bleeds over into almost every other facet of the political ideology that is libertarianism.
