Well, federal judges- legal scholars, all- disagree.

So too did all that initially governed the colonies that broke free and formed this nation. Those that would trade security for freedom deserve neither.

Okay well fire it up. Start that revolution.

Aren't many asserting that Snowden attempted to do just that? Or do they think that it is OK because, as Obama puts it, it is the law of the land?

I think he just wanted money from the Russians and Chinese, but let's assume he did: why not continue what he started?

Because I don't want a Russian or Chinese vacation, incarceration or a dirt nap. ;)

Edward Snowden... today. (15 December 2013)

Now that some time has passed, and we have had a chance to view some of the ramifications of his actions, and how the government has reacted, how do you view Edward Snowden today?

Hero? Traitor? Somewhere in between?

Does your view of him today vary from your initial view after he first released documents?

He is as much of a traitor as they come. I hope Obama drones his ***.

whatever happened to the people checking the power of the government? Snowden checked the power of the government and got in trouble for it, pathetic.

The use of either term tends to cheapen and dumb down the discussion. He's a criminal who deliberately undermined the appropriate power structures in place at the time. The amount of heroic praise dumped on the guy is a bit nauseating.

But not as nauseating as the depth of the corruptness of these so-called "appropriate power structures". Got it.

To clarify, exactly corruption are you referring to?

He shared classified information with the public. If you don't know why that's bad, I can't help you.

The power structures top his 'criminal' behavior 100 fold, terrible excuses for humans and don't deserve the privilege to call themselves American, they are scum on a good day. NSA and DHS are hands down the most despicable 3 letter organizations in this country, and any damage to their credibility is a good thing. Their mere existence is unconstitutional, and a slap in the face to the forefathers who created this country. They violated the constitution, essentially using it for a floor mop. He owes no allegiance to the illustrious king or his legion of borderline schutzstaffel like organizations. He owes his allegiance to the constitution and the people of the U.S. Anyone who says otherwise is just as bad as the loyalist subjects of the crown back in 1775, disgusting traitors to their countrymen and women.

Us lowly serfs, god forbid someone takes their oath to the people seriously and lets them know that their government is no better than the Kremlin.

Who do you think works in intelligence? lol

 That's adorable.

The bolded above highlights that you haven't got a clue about those agencies.

Are you kidding me? Your comment proves you've never read the federalist papers and what they imply concerning federal power. Big gov, save us from the magical terrorists. Your chances of dying in a swimming pool are exponentially higher than being killed by a terrorist.

'Murica...right? Fly them drones boys  We've got some people to free the **** out of.

Exactly what I was thinking.
If they have nothing to hide then they have nothing to worry about.

People are insinuating that Edward Snowden benefitted when there isn't an ounce of proof to back it up.
(Really... How could making the biggest government in the world your enemy be profitable?)

We do have proof that Edward Snowden revealed a lie in front of congress by the head of the NSA. That, legally, makes him a whistleblower.

Naturally, I don't expect the government to actually follow the rules it sets for itself.

Explain just what is unconstitutional about foreign SIGINT, because you said the mere existence of the NSA was unconstitutional. Nobody said anything about the chances of dying in different manners.

Why do you think information is classified?

Um...money?

There wouldn't be, if they were doing foreign work. Unfortunately, your argument is toast because Snowden released info about domestic spying.

I really need to go back to my gun forum. This place is loaded with big gov statists.

P.S., the gun forum is largely comprised of vets that agree with Snowden. Everyone gets together, shoots together, super tight community (consisting of 25K members). I'll take their word for it when combat vets say he did the right thing.
