"I am not among those who fear the people. They and not the rich, are our dependence for continued freedom." -- Thomas Jefferson, 1816 "[F]acts are before ideas." -- Mikhail Bakunin, 1882
For a Constitutional Professor from Harvard, his Executive Orders really don't follow the Constitution. Yes it's concerning... but so is the EPA's unfettered powers, the DoJ's selective prosecutions. Were a Republican in office this country would be filled with manufactured protests in every major city. Since it's a Democrat, none of that is necessary. Until the Congress is dismissed and the military is deployed to control citizens, I'll see any Friday executive orders as posturing by a weak leadership challenged President who is on track to be one of the biggest disappointments in modern U.S. history.
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.
In all fairness this isn't exactly new. Many presidents have signed this same type of order during their presidencies. Bush did, Clinton did and others since the 50's. While the act is an abuse of power, and seemingly goes against the founding principles of this country, it would be foolish to assume this is a Barack Obama thing. This is part of the United States government. The government that majority of Americans love.
