No. Star Wars on the other hand..... I mean... Lando Calrissian? Give me a ****ing break. Lucas may as well have called him "Interstellar Negro Pimp".

It is heavily influenced and derived from Nordic mythology, which is about as white as one can get - so no it is not racist, it is a product of its source material. If you are referring specifically to the movies, a dark skinned character would destroy the verisimilitude. I do not imagine anyone who read the books filled in the details in their mind's eye with dark skinned characters.

There's only one thing those eyes are doing, and that's undressing you. To be fair though, at least he buttons his shirt up.

Well, I think the answer was pretty much covered in the first page: no, it's not racist, unless you consider marketing to your primary audience (white people) as racist.

Halfway through the movie I was expecting Pam Grier to show up and just be like "You's a baaaaaaaad maaaaaaan Lando."

Why is everybody saying there are no dark skinned characters in the movie?

Re: Is the film "Lord Of The Rings" racist?

Taken from Tolkiens own statements he wasnt necessarily racist, though he certainly had his anti-Semitic side. The battle of good and evil has pretty much ALWAYS been about the light vs the dark...it just makes it easier to portray. When the script is flipped and Hollywood gets involved its often the very white (or light) that are evil. Think The Time Machine, Omega Man, or I am legend.

If you look for racism you can ALWAYS find it lurking in the shadows.

To be fair, "darkness" is usually associated with "evil" and not necessarily "black skin". There literally 1000s of examples of evil white characters being dark without necessarily being black. Some of the more recent ones include: Voldermort, Emperor Palpatine, any of the Disney villains, etc. If anything racially black villains are under represented in the fictional world.

He's an intergalactic pimp who gets a perm. You kiddin'? Tbh, I just thought Jar Jar was retarded. I didn't even think he was a "black character" until people pointed it out me.
