What nipple? I didn't see one. No big deal here.

True, it didn't even really show the nipple, just the areola. Big deal.

So you admit it was marketing. An attempt to sell papers not enlighten people on breast cancer. We agree. :)

The people who read the article will become enlightened.

Spoken like a true biker. The whole world isn't Sturgis you know.

Yes, I've ridden in every state in the continual US on a bike and most states many times over. And for your information I never been to Sturgis during bike week. But we're talking nipples here and I didn't see one.

Some taking offense to nudity (no matter how limited) is just a standard and expected cultural reaction. It's nice to see most folks here understand what the picture was trying to display.

That being said, as some have already stated, the reasoning for the low shirt is obvious: Attention.

Nonetheless, I take no offense to this and probably never will.

I was offended because they didn't show the entire nipple....and a little bit of bush ;)

Here ya go:

Agreed! This is outrageous!

And where are the mods????? Mods, we've got a link to areola slivers here!!!! I demand you remove it and ban the poster! My God, take the link down before an innocent child accidentally clicks on it! Why, the poor child might get the impression adult women have nipples!!!
I was referring to the newspaper not the thread . The newspaper did not need to show the areola . I'm not even talking about children reading the newspaper since Most children don't even other to read the newspaper in the first place . It distracts peoples attention from the issue. Where did your eyes wander towards the scar or the areola ?

I disagree. If anything, if people buy it because of the areola (which would be pretty sad - LOL!), then who cares as long as they read the article and get educated? That is the point.

the point is, those sad people who would buy it because of the areola could care ****all about the article and probably wouldn't read it. sure, it might help sell more papers, but it ain't gonna do jack **** about getting out the message.

Well, that's not necessarily true. Some men might be like "ooo, an areola" and then buy and read and then maybe learn something.

you don't know men very well do you? :lamo ;)

I just do not get it. This whole "OMG there is a hint of darker skin showing" hysteria just seems asinine to me, wow surprise surprise boys and girls, nipples on both sexes have darker skin around them. So sorry to bust your barbie doll image of female anatomy.

Seriously.. it is just a tiny flash of darker skin, were it not for taboos and a few people who may get a a tiny bit of a tingle when the line is pushed regarding these silly taboos it would be meaningless. It is purely cultural, and frankly in my mind inexplicable why a glimpse of areola is considered offensive.

sheesh. It is high time the Victorian age mentality and sensibilities are laid to rest IMO.

I wasn't really satirizing you. Rather I was mocking society in general as well as this forum's policy on nudity.

It distracts peoples attention from the issue.

I think most people can manage to stay on topic. Even when confronted with a nipple.

Where did your eyes wander towards the scar or the areola ?

Both. Back and forth. And to the tattoo. And the headlines. A tiny sliver of areola is not that interesting to me really. I recognize its controversy and that is what draws my attention moreso than the nipple's allure in and of itself. If showing female nipples wasn't such an asinine societal taboo, the edge of nipple in that photo wouldn't be distracting to anyone at all.

This picture was obviously on the front page of the New York Times. The article was about breast cancer. What do you think?

The picture doesn't offend me but the fact that you asked me if it is offensive offends me...

I had to Goggle that.

A box of tissues later, do you know what an areola is? :2razz:

Seriously though, why do breasts and nipples have to be sexualised when presented in a non-sexual context. An article about breast cancer should be able to show a naked breast if it wants, because it's relevant to the topic. That most people can't see a bit of nipple without thinking sex speaks a lot about the maturity of American society.

I didn't vote as I think the picture is fine, the breast is fine but the nipple is not fine... I mean, it is a fine looking nipple, just not front page material.

Here you can use these until you make up your ****ing mind:

tell that to the people who run this place... ;) you can be perma-banned for showing nip, regardless of the context
