Not sure. He moved and I don't see him much. I spoke with him on the phone a few times and he seems okay but we don't talk about politics.
 
I look at it this way: 15% will never buy anything from you, 15% will buy almost anything they see and the remaining 70% is salesmanship. Whether you are selling a product, service or simply an idea - it mostly boils down to presentation/persuasion.
 
I have no deep subconscious motive. I just enjoy communicating with people, although I read more than I post, and trying to understand views different than my own. I have had some of my opinions altered by what I've learned here; not many, but certainly some. Also, I enjoy getting to know people and have met many here who have added pleasure and enjoyment to my life. And a few jerks I'd like to strangle with a shoelace, but that's a topic for another time. :lol:
 
Self expression is a form of entertainment. Hence, I chose other.

One thing I've learned and still get caught off guard having lapses in judgment in by my participation on discussion boards is how easy it is to unintentionally offend people. Once you've offended someone, it is highly unlikely you'll be able to win them over to seeing things your way. But do most people even care about winning hearts? Are people really just interested in venting? Do people get a sense of internal affirmation by parroting the positions of their ideological team while reaching no one outside of their group? Do people get a charge out of slamming those they consider the opposition whether members the opposition his in the audience or not?

I'm not asking what makes the most sense now that I'm ranted a bit but what has been you default motive in expressing your views?

I like being challenged. One of two things come from it if you are truly being open-minded and make a sincere effort to hear the opposition:

1- Your view is strengthened
2- Your view evolves

Either is a great outcome.
 
No real objective, I do like to see the expanse of political views on the internet outside of trash heaps like youtube, facebook, or even tumblr that are hardly the bastion of anything great. Not to mention, I observe on here far more than actually posting.

Though, some of you guys say some crazy ****.

Awe, but you were sweet for putting in the effort. My advice: don't deal with friend's books - it's toxic to their efforts as a writer and can be toxic to a friendship.

Instead, send them to me! Oh well I mean - Send them to Scribophile! Writing group and online writing workshop for serious writers | Scribophile. Where aspiring authors and idiots alike get together, share our books, critique - and do all that stuff that friends shouldn't have friends do. #1 nail in the coffin for self-publishing authors: having their friends read their books and then thinking 'I'm so smart, my book is the best!' because the friends are too nice to say "this sucks." Instead, these poor obligated friend can say, "You know what! I have the perfect place for you . . . go to Scribophile."

Now - you being on debate politics - I wager that most of us are here to learn. It's not your run of the mill site where all manner of vitriol is spewed forth. We're a cut above debate dungeons and a notch below heaven.

Some are here to vent - but most people around here are not here JUST for that.

Hugely valuable advice! Thanks so much. I'm writing a book myself and will give it a try.

The more I think about it, the more I think my friend hand no interest in my feedback. I'm just worried now that this book will trigger a backlash he has no idea he'll be bringing upon himself. He'll probably then convince himself he's being persecuted "for telling the truth" when most of the "truth" in his book are simply his "true" opinions.

ditto for your work experience
would be different to actually see your posts evidencing that you have engaged in debate instead of mindless/meaningless posts (such as the one above); i look forward to the change

Feel free to look around. There are lots of threads where I drop economic knowledge on people. Walmart, minimum wage, corporations, etc. threads. Plenty abound.

Okay, so a formal education in economics and professional experience doesn't hold the merit of...a bunch of liberal bullcrap, hopes, wishes, and screams of "fair"?

Think what you want to think. Maybe you can continue par for the course with telling us how things "should" be. That usually belies intelligence.

the happiness index evaluated an array of sovereign nations across the globe
and those nations with a combination of a vibrant capitalistic economy coupled with a strong social safety net fared best
by comparison, please share with us the happiness index of the citizens of those capitalistic countries where social benefits are insignificant
prove to us that a social support system is something not appreciated by the citizens of one's country
