If I had any, I wouldn't voluntarily surrender my firearms to anyone for any reason, except if I personally decided to. A person's right do not vanish because something awful happens.

Storing them with the police definitely wouldn't be my first choice. I'd much rather have family or a friend hold on to them for me. But if I had exhausted every other option available, I might take advantage of having the police hold on to some of them temporarily. I'd be keeping some to protect myself though.

Because at the time when looters are most likely to be prevalent is when you want to be least defended, in order to enable the most wealth-redistribution. What are you, some kind of heartless Randian?

My first reaction was "hell, no." But then it occurred to me I can think of a situation in which I might. I would never surrender all my firearms, but if (for example) I lived in a small community where I knew the officers well, and they for whatever reason needed some guns to do their job, then I might give up some of my hardware. But I would never do so if I didn't know personally the people to whom I was giving up the guns. So my "depends" vote is fairly slim...

My question to you is if say your house was damaged and flooded, torn apart, burned, etc. by a natural disaster and have no safe place to store them would you surrender your firearms voluntarily to the police for safe keeping until you could return home and store them safely.
I'm not a gun person, but why bring that kind of red tape into your life?

Seems to me the RCMP gathered the guns up to safe guard them from looters. Am I mistaken? They gave the guns back didn't they?

In my state, It is illegal for police (or any government entity) to take weapons from people during a disaster.
