That's precisely what Noah did with his .50 cal. bow and arrows before The Flood. After the flood Noah was stunned, as you would obviously be, that the floods are widespread events, not just confined to his house.

So good for Noah, when the ark landed on the Mountains of Ararat, he still had his .50 cal and his bow and arrows ready for what ever was out there in them their mountains. Armed and ready to protect him and his.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

Of all the times, why would you do it in the wake of a natural disaster?

My question to you is if say your house was damaged and flooded, torn apart, burned, etc. by a natural disaster and have no safe place to store them would you surrender your firearms voluntarily to the police for safe keeping until you could return home and store them safely.
If the choice was to leave the guns in an unsecured house where they would likely be stolen, or turn them over to the police, I'd do the latter. The cops are much more likely to give them back than the thieves would be.

Protect them from what? Every animal and every human was supposed to have drowned in that universal flood. Who was left to shoot?

Not so sure about that. Some places have honest departments, but I would put the overall odds on police returning the weapons in a timely manner at 50/50, and even then, how do I know they aren't keeping a permanent log "off the books, just for future reference sake". I wish I could say that police(still people that I don't know) will uphold their oaths to the public but with some of the stunts departments have been known to pull are known to the public............I don't trust them with my property.

I have a hard time imagining such a circumstance. If I was sheltering in place, I'm keeping my guns. If I'm evacuating, 99% of the time it will be in my own vehicle(s), and I'm taking my guns with me.

Now I know guys who have such a huge collection that they could not readily transport same... but most of them also have safes that would stymie 99% of would be robbers...

I cannot tell you how many cases I have heard of involving cops who seized weapons under bogus (i.e. illegal) pretexts and refused to give them back short of a court order. The courts have to start treating such stuff as both criminal theft (and since it involves firearms-a federal offense under 18 USC 922 et seq) and a violation of constitutional rights under 42 USC 1983. after a few crooked cops end up being bubba's butt boy in USP Terra Haute, this sort of crap might end. BTW those clowns who rounded up guns after Katrina should be rotting in jail
