Young adults aren't signing up and I don't blame them. Why do they need substance abuse and therapy? Why does a young adult need child care insurance?

I don't know, but you might. And someone I'm your group might. And your circumstances might change.

I guess they want some people to get puked on

I just retired today. I did it because my retirement package guarantees a really good insurance package for me and my wife (last to die).

Congratulations on retiring!

I mentioned Obamacare, we all laughed and went on to something else.

No. It will happen. We just don't know to whom it will happen. But every year, it happens to quite a few. Young people are not invincible.

we discussed how Jimmy Carter should be sending Obama checks for taking his place as the worst President in our lives.

We never mentioned it at the table. That probably made the president and everyone else who are for it very happy. I don't have anything good to say about it and would have been talking everyone else around the table to oppose it with all their might.

Each individual sees and rates the presidents differently. Myself, I would put Obama and Bush the second probably right above Carter, Ford and Nixon. I go back to Eisenhower which would be the best president I can remember followed by JFK. I was born right after WWII and I can't personally remember Truman so I don't include him. But Nixon might just creep above Bush the second and Obama in a few years.

the high interest and inflation numbers during Carter still give my father heartburn remembering how we struggled to get by

The misery index, I remember it well. Interests rates around 12,13%. Can you imagine the interest payment on our national debt if the rates climbed back up to those during Carter. You would be counting close to all of our revenue intake just to pay the interest. If it happened once, it can again.

I think they were in the 16-17% range here. It was awful

then throw in inflation and there you go, the national misery index. But just wear a sweater and turn the heat down low and everything will be alright.

My Dad was trying to get a new business off the ground on borrowed money, we survived but I remember how cold we were and drinking water at supper time a lot.

I was on active duty during Jimmy Carter, he made the military a hallow force. But he also increased the pay tremendously for those of us that survived all his cuts. So like all presidents, there were some bad and some good in them.

Organizing for Action has urged Americans to go to their Thanksgiving dinners armed with talking points ready to talk to family about Obamacare.

Are you going to be one of them?
In hindsight, not a single thing was said about the ACA during our Thanksgiving. We talked about important things like Alabama vs Auburn aka The Iron Bowl, if Ohio State should be in title contention (no, weak schedule), how hunting season has been (not good), putting our Christmas tree up (done), and looking forward to our 3rd child being born (July 25th). I don't discuss such depressing things over Thanksgiving.

Idk man, Clinton was pretty bad. He gave us minimal raises AND we never got any new equipment. We were having to tape our friggin 1980's era flak jackets closed lol.

I retired from active duty in 1986, but I went right back to work for the Army as a civilian. I don't think Clinton really cared much for the military, but the rest of his presidency wasn't too bad.

I disagree. The POTUS wishing folks to encourage participation in the latest mandated income redistribution scheme does merit consideration.

And encouraging people, for that purpose, to hijack a family-oriented holiday in a politically-partisan manner that most people would find highly inappropriate at best.

Yeah, I've posted a few stories about a buddy of mine who worked closely with Pres Clinton during that time frame. He was on active duty as well. He didn't have anything good to say about him or especially Hillary.

His salutes to the Marines drove me nuts, and he was a shame to the presidency. But he was a very competent president and a great orator. I would like to have a beer with, in order, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Lincoln, Jefferson. I really want to ask Jefferson about the Lewis and Clark expidition.

If you're talking Presidents I'd like to have a beer with, that list begins and ends with Teddy Roosevelt. Although cocktails with JFK would be cool too, since you know he was knee deep in primo trim and he likely had girls that didn't make the cut.

Actually at my age I could come up with better looking chicks than Clinton, JFK outclassed me on my best day.
