Organizing for Action has urged Americans to go to their Thanksgiving dinners armed with talking points ready to talk to family about Obamacare.

Are you going to be one of them?

Nope, I'll be working Black Friday!! Which actually starts on Thursday!! woot woot!!

No, that is how insurance is packaged now - now that all those plans that didn't have men getting maternity coverage have been cancelled. Your depiction of the cancelled policies as "crap" is in contradiction to the evidence.

It's always been packaged that way. Even individual plans have been part of groups to keep costs down. You're looking past the issue to cherry pick something silly.

Does a 55 year old man need maternity coverage and the Pill for free? Does a 38 year old woman need coverage for prostate exams?
Does a man have any responsibility for a woman being pregnant and thus the woman needing maternity coverage?

Does a man require medical care for a woman being pregnant?

No. I am pointing out that the plans being cancelled are being cancelled because they do not include something silly. Not because they are "crap". Kristen Powers plan was not "crap". JumpinJacks' policy was not "crap". They were what these people wanted.

No, but shouldn't the cost of health care have the same cost regardless of gender? And shouldn't the man have a vested interest in the health of woman who will be the mother of his baby?

I do not think the president wants me to talk about Obamacare over Thanksgiving. He would not like my thoughts on it one bit.

How can an intelligent person ask that question. Do you not know the genders are different and have different health needs?

The answer to the second question is yes but do all men?

Shouldn't health care have the same cost regardless of anything at all? Why is gender the only discriminating factor? What about maladies? Why should the cancer patient pay more than someone who is healthy? Why should the elderly pay more than the young? Why should someone in NYC pay more than someone in Memphis? This false equivocation is silly. Who says that a man has a vested interest in some woman's baby - there's no provision that says if the child happens to be yours, you will pay more. The law says all men will pay for these things regardless of who fathers whom. So no, I'm not particularly interested in paying for someone else's maternity coverage. Pregnancy is an elective thing. There are other options.

Something similar to this is happening in Mexico with car insurance.

There are so many new cars being stolen that the insurance companies have to charge more each year to each customer.

Even though the value of my car goes down every year, and the cost of the insurance should too, the insurance goes up to cover the losses from the insurance companies.

The same thing will happen with Obamacare. In a few years the cost of the policy will be cost prohibitive, and what will people do then?

Don't focus too much on the word crap. It's subjective. They didn't meet the standards. But you're also incorrect that all of them are being cancelled due to ACA.

And some insurers have just decided they don't want to sell these policies anymore. Insurers in the individual market have frequently made decisions that one policy isn't sold from one year to the next, so it's a combined set of factors why some people aren't getting to hold their policies.

If you get your health insurance through your place of employment, don't men and woman pay the same rate?

hard to actually tackle our individual situations, but we do have rather comprehensive looks at what has happened in the past (mind doubled some years ago and reduced coverage before Obama was elected -- Damn Obamacare). And we know some of these changes are happening with no connection to ACA at all. But letting you think so is beneficial to insurance companies and critics. ;)

Exactly what changes are you attributing to non-ACA involvement that are happening now?

They could, depending on the pool. Note that the same sized pool in an office full of women probably pay more for the same policy than a similar group of men would. The simple truth is that women have more medical issues than men do. Cancer patients require much more care than a healthy young adult. The elderly require more care. This is simple reality. We can spread the risk, but denying reality will not help a rational distribution of risk. Why is a life insurance policy for a 40 year old female much less than the same policy for a male?

Anyone trying to discuss Obamacare on Thanksgiving better say it loud enough for people to hear it over my exclamations of "F'n Stafford! Quit f'n throwin the ball to the other f'n team!" and "that was pass f'n interference, you blind mofo".

Maybe they can do it during the postgame before I say the same things again, substituting Romo for Stafford.

You'll just have to make an effort to fuse the two into one. "****! That fumble was almost as bad as Obamacare on October 1st!" Stuff like that will take the sting out of such remarks for the faithful.

There are 2 things that I don't talk about at the dinner table: Politics and religion.

Then you can probably say anything you want. This is also possible where I live. My older brother, however, lives outside DC, where tires can be slashed during desert when no one is looking.

The reason is that group plans already cover both men and woman health. So the individual market is being brought up to that standard.

No, I generally ignore Obama and I'm just waiting it out till the next election.

La dee da (twiddles thumbs)...

Insurance companies raise premiums all the time, unlikely ACA affected them. Insurances are dropped, and changed all the time. This was happening before ACA, so you have to show a direct link, and not just because the insurance company says so. There has to be a reason. Business has dropped insurance long before ACA. There's been no real increase. So, while not perfect, and of some concern, it has not been what many claim.
