Do you check your luggage when flying? Should there be a requirement to?

I think US AIR is the absolute worst, I have been stranded more that once by them and they do not care to help you out of it.

No, but things have changed for them a lot lately, their fares are usually higher, I was in the industry for a long time, I follow it very closely. Southwest today is not the airline it was 10 years ago. There are some excellent industry blogs out there, The Cranky Flier is a great one. They still make money, but things have changed for them, the Air Tran buy out was a mistake, and they have too many planes coming. They want to go to Hawaii, but the 737-700 can only go from west coast cities. It is a fascinating industry, glad that I don't have to work in it anymore, too many layoffs!

The east crews (USAirways) are terrible, west (America West) are good.

Yes, but I have a connection to someone who is very well connected in USAir who can make a call and get me unstranded and upgraded if need be (which has happened a sum total of once. I like USAir) ;)
