Good point. Once the gov't gets its nose under the tent it is then a "gov't" problem that requires a "gov't" solution. In order to undo the gov't created mess of PPACA, the left now demands that the "good parts" (of a federal gov't mandate) must be kept. This means that getting the federal gov't out of the "private" medical care insurance business is off the table.

What "better" idea would prevent insane (or criminally inclined) folks from killing someone to take their gun(s)? Many arsons are facilitated by private sales of gasoline in to go containers, yet few would propose a law banning Harry Homeowner from doing so. Making access to all tools/substances used by criminals as restrictive as possible is not going to decrease crime, especially if those same tools/substances can be used against criminals.

Well, since humans as a species have no grasp on reality whatsoever when it comes to politics, I would have to say that neither option is viable.

Since all humans are voters, no voters have the least grasp on reality.
