I like that you qualified it with a namesake style conservative rather than trying to convince that one particular brand of conservatism is the true conservative. Good on ya.

I just think we have different strategic thinking. You think more on a tactical level, I would say, in using the vote the way you do...which is fine. My view is more big picture in that the party must change/evolve to survive (win votes). When this country goes too far left or too far right, it has a history of returning to a more moderate position after several pendulum swings back and forth. Obama was the counter to Bush, and hopefully a center-right candidate will be the swing back to counter Obama. We'll see.

It is too early for me to seriously consider the 2016 presidential race. Of your choices offered I like Jon Hunstman and Rand Paul the best. Of those not listed I have interest in Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley but have no idea of their plans to seek higher office. Herman Cain may be a wise choice for a VP and is a natural at public speaking. The GOP primary must avoid emphasis on "social conservative" issues like abortion and SSM but should continue to emphasize the importance of family, local and state government as preferred alternatives to federal meddling outside of the specific constitutional powers granted to it. I also favor a GOP plank to abolish all federal meddling in education.

Rand Paul, because I like his libertarian lean.

I don't think that's likely any time soon, we'll have to be dragged into real conservatism kicking and screaming, it's the result of 40+ years of social liberalization. The government won't start living within it's means until the Chinese cut us off completely and that's not likely in the short term.

You can vote in both. I worded it specifically so those not democrat or republican could. Those people not with one or the other party will determine the eventual winner in 2016.

What's out there right now, at least among the Republicans, isn't conservatism at all, it fails on every qualification, yet they keep spouting it because they think they're fooling people. Unfortunately, they probably are.

I probably will at some point. I covet my independent status. Makes me feel like the Golden Child.

Man, why didn't you stop with the Goldwater statement. Now I have to recant my praise.

Excellent movie, but I think anything Eddie Murphy stars in is an excellent movie!! Do you know how to do all that magic stuff?
