The Incognito story has gone from a story about Bullying to the plot from "A Few Good Men". What do you think should happen to Incognito and/or possibly the staff and ownership?

I was wondering when someone would post something about this. I totally get the attitude a lot of players have said that Martin should have gone to Incognito or the coaching staff about this prior to going public with it. I tend to side with that as well. A 300lb man should be able to stand up for himself and tell another 300lb man to shut his mouth. I don't understand why Martin felt as if he couldn't tell the dude to back off. As it is, he didn't and now the Dolphin's coaching staff look like a bunch of Jack Nicholsons and Kiefer Sutherlands lol. I do think they should be punished for it. I'm a big fan of the league disallowing them a playoff appearance for 3 years and taking their 1st round draft pick for 3 years. That would send a message.

I think it should be handled by the Dolphins and NFL league office and that is the end of it. You will never make me believe that this does not happen in other locker rooms. I played football in high school and my first year of college, one has to be mentally and physical tough to play that game.

Further chickification of America
soon they will all be wearing pink tutus

He should be punished by the league and the Dolphins should get rid of him. Honestly, if he's still playing like he did with the Rams it'd be addition by subtraction anyway. Seemed like a personal foul and 15 yards after every play from him.

He made a death threat first of all. When i hear of 19 year olds rotting in jail with no trial for months for a sarcastic comment on a video game, then this scumbag goes free? Well, like all bullies he's too much a coward to act on his threat. This is really pathetic for a supposed adult, but that's the NFL for you. Haven for dog killers, rapists, cheaters (steroids), racists, homophobes etc. It will take a miracle to get me to ever tune in on sundays at this rate.

steve smith of the panthers physically assaulted two team members in separate incidents - one of then with severe damage to the victim
yet he is viewed as one of the stars of the team

incognito remains supported by his team mates, in a way that martin is not
and if it is confirmed that the coaching staff instructed incognito to 'toughen up' martin, then he will receive a 'get out of jail free' card and go on to help another team in need of a superior offensive tackle
hell, i hope my team picks him up ... just like they should have done when vick was available

martin is soft. the NFL is the one workplace where being an ivy leaguer does not work to your advantage. before college he was in an elite private high school. he needs to man up if he expects to continue his own career. and given his recent play, even that may be inadequate to keep him in the NFL

It is easier to be a violent knuckledragger (Incognito) in a violent sport than it is to be a civilized person (Martin) in a violent sport. Incognito (should a person with such a name really be in the newspaper?) was put in a position of authority and abused that authority.

appears he was directed to do what he did:
Miami Dolphins coaches asked player Richie Incognito, who was the offensive line's undisputed leader, to toughen up teammate Jonathan Martin after he missed a voluntary workout last spring, multiple sources told the Sun Sentinel.
Dolphins coaches asked Incognito to toughen up Martin, sources say - Sun Sentinel

don't ask that of him and then banish him from the team/league. he was following orders as the obedient offensive [name well chosen] captain

I too saw the story and I'm sure the Dolphins staff would say that while they asked him to do something, they didn't tell Incognito what or how to do it. I chose the option that also punishes the coach and the team.

Idk man. I don't think the threats of life and racial slurs happen. I played football in high school and serve in one of the most testosterone driven occupations in the world and that stuff doesn't happen. My big point is that Martin should have said something to someone within the organization before he went public with this. It's an unwritten rule that you try to handle stuff like this in house before escalating it.

Nothing should happen to him by the league, IMO. If the Fins want to get rid of him, they should. However, he'll get another job as soon as he's waived.

The overwhelming majority of players are siding with Incognito - and this includes black players. They think of Martin as a "snitch" who essentially went outside the chain of command to tattle on a teammate. He'll be shark chum in most locker rooms.

Incognito is a Pro Bowler, don't forget. He has exactly the attitude most franchises want in an O-Lineman.

It says more about Martin than Incognito, who can essentially take the Nuremberg defense now and say "management told me to do it". Stanford may field some brilliant people, but it appears to come at a price. I never thought I'd see a 320 pound *****.

Incognito was pretty much of a pariah before this incident. This is his last rodeo.

I'm going to throw this out there.

The NFL is a workplace. It's a business and the players are unionized workers.
If you were the manager of a factory/business and someone did those type of things to a co-worker how would you react as a boss?

He has a history for sure, but for the most part it was opposing teams that had the problem with him. He was a complete dick at Nebraska, and has basically been considered the Conrad Dobler of today's NFL. Of course, now he's only considered the 2nd dirtiest player, now that Ndamukong Suh's here.

In the end, most teams will recognize him as a VERY competent guard who will go into the trenches with you and for you. If he's waived or released, he gets another job within a week - without question.

I bet he will do a year of counselling and play again.

that his team mates are speaking out in his support tells me this guy is a player who has worth to an NFL team in need of a good offensive lineman. i remember when folks insisted vick would never make it back to the NFL. we know how that prediction wound up

normally, as management, when two union represented employees have a disagreement, i send the issue to the union and have them solve it

but not this time, because it appears management reached out to incognito to 'toughen up' martin. management can't issue such an assignment to the employee and then bust him for following orders

Well, there's a difference there. Vick was incarcerated for close to 2 years, so the doubt on him playing again had more to do with conditioning than it did character. It's the same reason why Plaxico Burress, with regard to his career, shot himself in the foot after shooting himself in the leg. When you're taken out of the game for a couple years and sent to prison, you lose the ability to compete at the highest level.

With Incognito, he's ready to play at any time. Now he won't play with the Dolphins again, and he'll be out for a month because they are giving him a 4 game "conduct detriment" suspension (strictly for financial purposes).

That's another thing that made me sick. The rest of his contract year supposedly had a value of around 4 million, and the Fins could give him a 4 game conduct suspension to save just over a million dollars. Someone answer this for me - if you're a billion dollar franchise with a typical NFL payroll, is it worth saving a million dollars by doing this, as opposed to the PR coals you're going to get raked over for keeping someone that's supposedly this racist, this dirty, and this inhuman?

I'd just pay the money for the ability to wipe my hands clean of him, were he this heinous. As it is, most NFL analysts and experts are ostracizing the franchise - and this can't help matters much.

Make him play for the Steelers.

A court of law would deem that "Cruel and Unusual Punishment," and dismiss the case!

Morining Pol. Cruel and unusual indeed. Football is under attack. Incognito just needs to say that he's suffering from some head trauma, and he'll be the object of sorrowful understanding. We all know that throwing your body around like that should not include your head.

Is this some kind of prelude to eventually giving everyone a trophy like they do in grade school...so no one is a loser? If so, don't forget the juice box cause football is a thirsty sport!

It could be. The sport is just too violent for the tender sensibilities of some people somewhere. Beats the hell out of me. I played in high school. Anybody who plays and doesn't think they're going to get hurt probably doesn't have anything upstairs to hurt in the first place. But yeah, we're going to get all PC over football - no bullying. Looks like they'd like that both on and off the field. Soon we'll be forced to watch replays of Obama drone attacks on a loop on Sundays. Far, far less offending.

The entire Dolphins franchise should be folded.

Seriously, Incognito should get what's coming to him. He was never much more than a thug with a million dollar paycheck. Martin needs to be tougher, I can't see how he battles on the line if he's that much of a wuss. Coaches should be fired for letting the situation get out of control - sure they wanted Incognito to toughen him up, but maybe they should have told him not to cross the line.
