We don't have to use the U.S. military but we could use more of the technology that the military uses to prevent infiltration to stop and capture the illegal border crossers.

I live in Mexico and have been living in Mexico for almost 14 years.

These people are lazy people to an extreme.

Mexicans think the streets of th US are paved in gold, some have told me that exact thing, and all they have to do is cross the border and money will be thrown at them.

When they get there they find out the reality of the situation.

Many are going back because there isn't the financial success they expected.

Where did the idea come from originally that the Mexicans were crossing the border to better their life and just work an honest days work?

If they put the same effort into working in Mexico that they do to cross the border and hide from the authorities, they could do very well.

There are plenty of opportunites in Mexico for educated people, but since a loser will never get educated, he cross the border where his education means nothing.

Please do not think a border crosser is anything to lok up to.

Most of them abandon their families to go to the US and start another one with a woman from there.

there are kids everywhere who haven't seen their fathers in years and it does affect them.

My girlfriends father is one of those border crossers.

My girlfriend doesn't even know how many half-brothers and sisters she has because this man has children from many different women in 2 countries, and he was never there for her or he sister, and they were the forst two he produced.

we have plenty of mexican immigrants here. Not to sound too "racist" but they sure do work a lot harder than some of the other minorities in the area.

I think this is true of most real first generation immigrants no matter where they came from. They worked to get here, establish a life and go through the citizenship process. They are invested.

Fascinatingly, Scotland has something called 'The Right to Roam', and people are allowed to traverse or camp anywhere, so long as they are not breaking any other laws, nor causing damage to the property. In addition, if it is private property, if asked, they must leave -- but they can't be asked to leave if it's public property.

Not really pertinent at all, but your comment made me think of this.

Are so many so fat and out of shape that they can't physically do hard work any more? Is it just easier to life off of the welfare state? Do we think farm work is somehow beneath us?

Farming doesnt pay enough. And farms are so far away from the city where most people live, itd be pointless to work there. That's why Americans aren't taking those jobs.

You know, "them" people get free stuff is a favorite right wing meme. If they are illegal all they get is to work for low pay and pay taxes they never benefit from.

Which is why we look the other war as they make their way across the border. There has been no serious attempt to control the border since the 1950s.
 
I would certainly support militarizing the boarder. The Mexican War down there with the Cartel seeps into America everyday and we don't react in anyway. They traffic humans whether for immigration status or for sex slavery, they cart tons of drugs over that are illegal in the first place, and they destabilize entire regions of southern America with gangs and other groups that support the cartel. It is time America says enough and stops allowing itself to be used and abused by the Mexican cartel. Militarize the border and let them wage their war in their nation and if that stops the cartel's activity in America...all the better. I see this as creating jobs and supporting the military and I think it would be a step in the right direction.

Slight error in my logic there. There's also the factor that one would have to travel several miles to get to a farm everyday. Mcdonalds is usually right down the street.
 
I would not support militarizing anything. The military is for sustaining and developing national defense capacity, period. It is a full-time job.

It for sure does not: fully 40% of "illegal immigrants" enter the country legitimately, and then overstay their visas.

(Not that I believe we really have much of an "issue", but that would be a separate topic).

Why not just do like Mexico and mine our southern border?
