I think a better solution would be to take a "mow your neighbor's lawn" approach. At times people end up with a neighbor who has abandoned their home or acts like it and neglects things. The neglected property ends up devaluing other property in the area. Although its a pain, often the wise choice in such cases is to spend a hour every couple of weeks mowing the neglected property's lawn.

I think we need a comprehensive Mexico policy that has as its goal working with Mexico to bring it into the G8 and help make it more "Americanized" for lack of a better word and less third world. Due to the relative proximity to the states, I think it would include business initiatives that created jobs for both Mexicans as well as Americans willing to relocate to Mexico for work. I think we need to insist English language and American history be taught in every grade level of Mexican primary and secondary education. I also think English language American radio and TV should be broadcast in every large and medium city in Mexico under a cultural exchange program. Place select American radio and TV stations in a lottery pool to retransmit their signals into a Mexican city for 5 years. Maybe 2 US radio and TV stations into a sister Mexican city. Then when their people relocate here, and obviously many do, the whole population speaks English, has some knowledge US history and can more easily adapt to American culture.

In time possibly all sides agree to incorporate Mexico into the US, first making their states US territories.
You are forgetting who the border crossers are.

They are the losers of society that can't or won't do anything for themselves.

You don't see educated people crossing the border, just the people that are too lazy to make it in Mexico.

There are just as many oppotunities in Mexico as the US, but with lower pay. These people look at the US as the saving grace for them and they can make a ton of money without doing much. It is only after they get to the states that they get a huge dose of reality.

On your other point, why would you think a soverign nation would let the US dictate what should be forced down the throats of the citizenry?

Are you of the opinión that the majority of the Mexican population are going to cross the border?

Now, there's an ambitious goal, bring all 31 Mexican states into the US eventually, after they've served their time as territories. The US would then have 81 states, rather than 50. The flag would be a bit crowded.

It's a bit like what Spain tried to do centuries ago in California when it built the missions, taught the natives Spanish, agriculture, and Catholicism.

It didn't work for Spain, or for the native Californians.

I'm not at all sure that making the Mexicans into Americans would actually work out so well either.

This sounds like exactly the job for the National Guard, operating under the direction of the Governors and in coordination with DHS, ICE, and INS.

as i still cant figure out how to post quotes, ill have to do it this way,
Carjosse, why would it be illegal to punish illegal immigrants from entering our country. we give them ample notice that this is the border and if you cross it you will be breaking the law and we have right to arrest you for such. If they're armed and they cross that border, and they don't put it down or go back, we have the right to fire back. And you cant say that the Libyans haven't created a good way to keep people from coming in.

cpwill, exactly the problem, we have so many agencys that have to do different jobs but get the same one done, we should just compress all of those into one, like a border control version of the ministry of defence

to dittohead not, well why don't we just create a larger version of the united kingdoms. incorporate all of our ideas together, create one nation that no one is really going to mess with. allows for no more illegal immigration, extended resources, and furthers the ideas of democracy. no one would ever go with it, but if we are talking hypothetical

A nice hot piece with some vanilla ice cream would taste mighty good right now.
